Commodity trading in Dubai has continued to grow in the past few years, providing a positive effect upon the wider UAE economy. Trading data released by the Dubai Gold and Commodities Exchange (DGCX) showed that the average daily volumes (ADV) rose again throughout February 2017, with the exchange’s product suite hitting record highs of 62,844 contracts in the month. Such a boost continues to push Dubai and the UAE forward as a financial powerhouse thanks to various factors aiding its economy to grow.    

The 13th edition of Collect, a leading international art fair for contemporary objects, has returned to the Saatchi Gallery in London, and is hosting a dynamic showcase of some of the best museum-quality crafts and textiles by established and emerging artists from around the world, between 2 to 6 February.

The seventh annual Sharjah Light Festival, SLF, started last night at the University City Hall in Sharjah City. The 10-day event will conclude on 11th February. 

In the wake of the inspirational and highly successful Sharjah Baby Friendly Emirate Campaign, SBFC, launched in 2011, the campaign is experiencing a major transformation into Sharjah Baby Friendly Office, SBF, to sustain and improve on the previous work to a wider age-group of children, with a larger mandate and a more comprehensive scope.

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an administrative resolution No. 2 of 2017, pertaining to preparing Sharjah to join the Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities.The administrative resolution states the importance of environment in determining healthy ageing and encouraging the creation of age-friendly environments.

The Friends for Diabetes Association, one of the health-promoting organisations under the Health Education Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, unveiled details of its awareness initiative titled "Sugar Sweet and Bitter." The new initiative, which aims to promote diabetes awareness among school children in Sharjah, runs from 22nd January to 6th February.

The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, SCTDA, has announced the 7th edition of the Sharjah Light Festival, starting from February 2-11 in thirteen different locations spanning the entire Emirate of Sharjah. The chosen locations are set to be illuminated with breath-taking light shows and musical performances that shed light on the aesthetics of Sharjah’s architectural landscape.
