Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee Maps Out Key Deliverables To Bie General Assembly

As the UAE prepares to mark the one year anniversary of the country winning the right to host the World Expo in Dubai in 2020, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee Chairman, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, has officially led the UAE delegation to the General Assembly of the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE), the governing body of the World Expo.

His Highness marked the occasion by paying tribute to all those that contributed to the UAE's selection and pledged that Expo 2020 Dubai would be an event for all, and serve as a decisive catalyst for positive change and collaboration for the region and the world.

"During the successful bid process, many were instrumental in the unprecedented level of support and enthusiasm that played such an influential role in the United Arab Emirates winning the rights to host Expo 2020 Dubai. Together, we have all made history and have earned the opportunity to lay defining foundations for a collective and collaborative future that will touch the world uniquely and positively - one that I am confident your continued support will enable us to deliver," said His Highness.

"Connecting Minds, Creating the Future, the Expo 2020 Dubai theme and its sub themes, Opportunity Mobility and Sustainability, will drive the content and provide the prism through which we can explore, connect and address local, regional and global challenges."

Addressing the BIE's 168 member states in Paris, His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director-General of the Ruler's Court, and Vice-Chairman of Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee, formally presented the UAE's vision and update on developments for hosting the event, including highlighting core deliverables required for the mandatory Registration Phase, a legally binding process for the ratification of Expo 2020 Dubai, expected to be completed in November 2015.

"Over the last 12 months, we have worked to lay a solid foundation to deliver all the necessary requirements for the Registration Phase as well as to put in place mechanisms to allow for the world-class delivery of this event, and its subsequent legacy taking us well beyond 2020," said His Excellency Al Shaibani.

The last year has seen a number of key initiatives undertaken. In January 2014, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai issued Decree No (49) of 2013 on the formation of the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee under the supervision of Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
