A vibrant metropolis that brims with energy and effervescence, Dubai is a popular tourist hotspot for anyone looking to escape, and then explore a new direction with their next breath. Beloved by all who visit, Dubai is a city in which east and west stand side by side without compromise to cultural traditions and identity; a city where glamor and fashion are as easily accepted as history and heritage. Although Dubai is renowned for its striking architecture and fashionable heart, its magnificent tourist attractions and its beautiful coastal landscape, the city also boasts a number of major events and festivals throughout the year. These celebrations have the power to unite crowds and attract visitors from around the world, and another new year is only just getting started.

Now in its 20th year, the World Cup is one of the United Arab Emirates’ biggest social and sporting events, and the richest celebration of horse racing in the world. The Arabians adore their horses, and this festival is the city’s opportunity to bring everybody together in a whirlwind of racing, live music and entertainment. The Dubai World Cup concludes the UAE racing season, and features nine races across numerous categories. Racing fanatic or not, the World Cup’s excitement is infectious.

Dubai Summer Surprises, July

Designed for the whole family, it features performances, activities, popular children’s characters, shopping deals, competitions and more – all with the aim of welcoming summer and the wonderful festival and events that the season brings. Considered a national holiday, this particular festival features a dazzling array of firework shows, parades, dancing and concerts, as well as heritage villages that demonstrate traditional ways of life. Other events during National Day include the Abu Dhabi Air Expo, the Emirates Classic Car Festival and the Umm Al Quwain Car Parade – there are celebrations for all to enjoy.

Advice for visitors

The first thing that anyone planning to visit Dubai should do is research; while Dubai is considered relatively liberal when it comes to westerners, the city’s culture and laws are dictated by its Islamic faith, and should be respected. Travelers should take the time to look into dress codes, etiquette, greetings and local laws, as well as other information they would normally gather about a destination before setting off. Accommodation is plentiful across the city, including five star hotels, boutique bed and breakfasts, and Dubai apartments for vacation, although the latter option is particularly popular for those looking to explore the city at its best. There is, quite simply, something for every budget. Finally, tourists should think about how they’ll be arriving in Dubai, and the ways in which they plan to move around. The public transport system includes water taxis, waterbuses and the Metro service, which will comfortably take revelers from venue to venue, as required.

A comprehensive guide to Dubai’s many major events and festivals can be found here. From food festivals and major sporting events, to celebrations of the city’s passion for the arts and its own amazing achievements, there’s something for everyone throughout the year in Dubai; it’s little wonder that this destination is so beloved by travelers from around the world.
