Monetary and Banking Developments for August 2014

The U.A.E. Central Bank has announced that the money supply aggregate M0 (currency in circulation + currency at banks) decreased by 7.6 percent, from AED 72.1 billion at the end of July 2014 to AED 66.6 billion at the end of August of the same year. The money supply aggregate M1 (currency in circulation plus monetary deposits, i.e., current accounts and call accounts at banks) decreased by 0.5 percent, from AED 433.6 billion at the end of July 2014 to AED 431.4 billion at the end of August of the same year.



Dubai Emerging as Global Higher Education Hub

Global transnational education (TNE) students are increasingly seeing Dubai as a global higher education hub akin to the USA, UK, Australia and Canada, said Dr. Ayoub Kazim, Managing Director of Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV) and Dubai International Academic City (DIAC), part of TECOM Investments’ Education Cluster, at a prestigious education conference in the UAE this week.



UAE general public and business leaders favourable towards Government to guide economy

Favourability towards the U.A.E. government is overwhelmingly high with 83 percent of the general public and 90 percent of business executives citing a "favourable" view of the leadership compared to a global average of 43 percent, according to the first CNBC/Burson-Marsteller Corporate Perception Indicator.

Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD) has issued its quarterly report on non-oil merchandise trade through the ports of the Emirate of Abu for Q2 2014 to support decision makers and businesses with accurate and up-to-date statistics on the non-oil merchandise that entered or exited the territory of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi through the emirate’s ports (including air, sea and land ports) during the reference period.



ADPC, TCA Abu Dhabi take ’Cruise Abu Dhabi’ international

 The concept design of Abu Dhabi’s planned permanent cruise passenger terminal is to be unveiled later this month at Europe’s most prestigious cruise event, Seatrade Med 2014, from 16-18 September in Barcelona, Spain. The model is being showcased by Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) following an international design competition and extensive industry stakeholder input. An important element of the competition was the commitment to hire two leading Emirati architectural graduates, to join the project team for the development of the architectural design.
