Ministry Of Community Development Registers 50,000 Volunteering Hours This Ramadan

Naji Al Hai: In collaboration with our partners and volunteers, we have reached more than 8,500 beneficiaries

The Ministry of Community Development (MOCD) has confirmed that around 30,000 volunteers from across the country recorded a total of 48,869 volunteering hours participating in more than 52 initiatives on its UAE Volunteers platform during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

MOCD launched several Ramadan campaigns, including Khairana Lahlina and Masaai Al Khair, that aimed to help achieve cohesive society and preserved identity – one of the pillars of the National Agenda of the UAE Vision 2021.

The Ministry has also expanded the footprint of its existing initiatives and programs to reach more than 8,500 beneficiaries across the UAE. The activities included the distribution of Mir Ramadan (Ramadan donations) provided by charitable and humanitarian institutions to 500 families. Orphans and families in need received a total of 1,200 Eid meals, while 27 families benefitted from the donation of electrical equipment and the payment of their water and electricity bills. Furthermore, the Ministry distributed zakat to underprivileged families, widows and cancer patients.

Naji Al Hai, Assistant Undersecretary of Social Development at the Ministry of Community Development, said: "As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance family stability, empower the community and elevate the standard of living for UAE nationals, our Ramadan initiatives spanned all regions of the country and reached more than 8,500 beneficiaries. I extend my sincere gratitude to the companies and institutions across the UAE that participated in our campaigns within the framework of their corporate social responsibility programs."

He added: "The Ministry works relentlessly to promote the culture of volunteering that is inherent in the UAE society, seeking to enhance social solidarity, and build a comprehensive community safety net that contributes to boosting the country's happiness and standard of living indicators."

MOCD's achievements during Ramadan included installing smart devices in 133 homes of people with hearing disabilities and introducing a mobile home care unit for the elderly in the emirate of Ajman. His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Ajman Municipality and Planning Department, inaugurated the Ajman initiative in the presence of Her Excellency Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development.

Masaai Al Khair, a joint campaign by MOCD, Dubai Holding and Dubai Municipality, was also launched this Ramadan. A prime example of a productive public-private partnership, the initiative provided home maintenance for social security beneficiaries and low-income families in Dubai with a total value of AED10 million. The Ministry was responsible for selecting and coordinating with the recipients, while Dubai Municipality conducted home surveys and Dubai Holding executed the works.

In addition, MOCD participated in Ramadan volunteering programs organized by partner entities in the UAE, such as Ramadan Aman (Safe Ramadan) by Al Ihsan Charity Association, Their Suhour is On Us by the Community Development Authority and Mawaed Al Rahman (Ramadan Iftar Table) by du.
