Smart Dubai has organised a brainstorming session at its headquarters in Dubai Design District (d3) as part of its Smart Cities Hackathon, drawing representatives from 15 government entities and private companies across various sectors.

Part of the Dubai Shared Infrastructure project (which is a pillar of the Dubai Paperless Strategy), the session sought to develop a roadmap to create a shared technological infrastructure for the emirate, in addition to discussing prospects for cooperation among all parties to enhance the performance of the smart government ecosystem.

Smart Dubai aimed to promote a future-focused mindset among participants, exchanging ideas and tactics that will help provide integrated life experiences for the citizens and residents of the emirate, develop ICT infrastructure and governance practices, and enhance cooperation to drive Dubai’s transformation into the happiest and smartest city in the world.

The meeting was attended by representatives from several government bodies, as well as private sector entities specialising in technology, telecommunications, free zones, real estate, and smart city infrastructure.

His Excellency Wesam Lootah, CEO at the Smart Dubai Government Establishment (SDG), said: “Smart Dubai is committed to building an integrated shared technological infrastructure that will meet all the needs and requirements of a futuristic smart city, solidifying its global leadership in smart city development, and achieving the vision of our wise leadership to transform Dubai into the happiest and smartest city in the world.”

“Strengthening Dubai’s technological infrastructure requires concerted efforts from all government and private sector entities involved in Dubai Government’s smart transformation,” he added. “This collaboration constitutes a solid foundation for building a sustainable smart city. Today, we take another step forward in our journey to the future, in collaboration with our strategic partners, to offer the best possible services and spread happiness among the citizens and residents of Dubai.”

The brainstorming session explored several topics, from customer experiences and integrated smart channels, to data exchange and integration in the public and private sectors. Participants went on to explore the next generation of shared infrastructure and advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, big data and the Internet of Things (IoT), examining Dubai Government’s experience in technological infrastructure governance and financing.

The session also focused on innovative, ambitious ideas that can be implemented in Dubai in the long term with high flexibility and low risk. Furthermore, the session explored the technological prospects of a Smart Dubai, in addition to ideas for potential uses of advanced technologies in the emirate. It also shed light on operational models for infrastructure services and projects, offering insight into governance practices.
