National Qualification Authority To Map Teaching Diplomas To Framework Levels

In line with its strategic goal of enhancing the quality of the education and training sector, the National Qualifications Authority (NQA) hosted a meeting aimed to align teachers and educators qualifications to the levels and outcomes of the National Qualifications Framework and to unveil a new teaching career initiative.

During the meeting, held at the NQA’s Headquarters in Abu Dhabi and attended by representatives from the UAE University, Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology, Khalifa University, Emirates College for Educational Development, Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and Abu Dhabi Institute for Vocational Education and Training, the NQA highlighted the strategic objectives that will come about as a result of developing qualified teaching staff, particularly among the UAE nationals.

Of these strategic objectives, His Excellency Dr. Thani AlMehairi, the Director General of NQA, said, “Promoting the status of general education sector will make it more attractive for UAE teaching workforce from both genders, and will establish a solid ground for qualified and skilled teachers and educators who can ably and appropriately deal with the different- age students at the professional, academic, and even psychological levels.”

Also, Dr AlMeheiri stressed, “developing programs and diplomas mapped to the outcomes and levels of the National Qualifications Framework will place the UAE in the league of countries whose teachers meet international educational standards, and so become an exporter rather than an importer of qualified teaching workforce."

Unveiling the NQA’s new initiative on developing the “General Education Teaching Career Handbook”, Dr. AlMeheiri said, “the new Handbook, to be developed in partnership with the Ministry of Education, will give UAE nationals a competitive edge and help them embrace more promising employment opportunities. Furthermore, the Handbook classifies and describes the different relevant employment categories, the career progression, as well as the knowledge, skills and competences required for each cycle of general education.”
