Grace Period For Paying Traffic And Mawaqif Fines By Installments Extended Till November 30 |

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced that the grace period to settle unpaid fines payable to “Mawaqif” or the traffic Department has been extended for three months, from September 1 to November 30,. Single violations should be paid in full. This initiative is part of the efforts aimed at providing community members, citizens and residents alike, the opportunity to avoid failure-to-pay penalties accumulated against their vehicles and renew their vehicle license through the Federal Traffic and Licensing System. Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police, indicated that the reprieve available for three month is currently effective. All fines payment branches at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate and Vehicles and Drivers Licensing Department in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region will grant motorists the opportunity to clear off the traffic or Mawaqif fines on their record (the option will be applicable for those who were issued at least two fines with a combined value of at least AED 1000). Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi also declared that the number of drivers who availed of the installment scheme during the previous three months grace period amounted to 2988 individuals. The biggest amount paid in monthly installments (for traffic and Mawaqif fines) was AED 60 thousand. He also called upon drivers who availed of this grace period to take the opportunity to reconsider their traffic behavior and to observe the laws and regulations that are enacted to ensure their safety. He stressed that neither Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters nor the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi are happy to issue violation tickets whatsoever. For his part, Mohammed Hamad bin Fahed Al Muhairi, Director General of Mawaqif Division at the Department of Transport, Abu Dhabi, called upon drivers who are eligible for payment by installments to avail of the grace period extended till November 30 in order to settle unpaid traffic fines and renew their vehicles’ license easily. Adding further, Al Muhairi said: “Vehicle owners can approach Mawaqif at all times to submit their queries, grievances, and opinions regarding their violations. A designated committee will look into all grievances, and takes immediate decision, to avoid delay in vehicle license renewal.” According to the decision of Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate and the Department of Transport (DoT), this easy payment option is applicable for traffic fines issued to vehicles registered by individuals only; while companies and other organizations cannot avail of this option. The installments scheme can be used to pay off traffic fines for vehicles registered in the UAE and does not cover cars with foreign, export, or temporary number plates. The vehicle owner must pay all traffic fines issued by the UAE authorities, including the traffic police and municipalities in other emirates, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai, and authorities in other GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) nations. He also needs to pay 50% of the total of Abu Dhabi Traffic Department’s violations and Mawaqif penalties upfront, provided that he settles the remaining 50% of the amount during one year. Motorists, who wish to sell, export, issue a tourist round trip certificate, or transfer the car within the UAE, must first settle all remaining traffic fines. The installments scheme also allows people who own two vehicles and both have expired licenses and traffic fines, to pay the fines incurred by one of the vehicles and renew its license, without having to do so for the second vehicle. |
