CMEP Expo Recognizes UAE’s Hospitality Industry With Excellence Awards 2014

UAE’s hospitality industry came together for a glittering award ceremony that recognized the painstaking efforts of the housekeeping staff. The Clean Middle East Expo played host to these awards that identified the ‘difference makers’ in the hospitality industry. The three day expo came to an end on Thursday at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center; the awards witnessed a record participation with a healthy number of nominations received for the Excellence Awards 2014.

“It was a prodigious experience. At the outset, we did not envisage the scale of the entrants and nomination. Finally, we narrowed it down to 15 nominees across three categories. On Wednesday evening, a winner and runner-up was picked from each category. However, the jury were tied on the supervisor category. And, hence the award was shared between two winners followed by the runner-up,” commented Tatjana Ahmed, housekeeping manager, Grand Hyatt, who is also the chairlady of the UAE Professional Housekeepers Group.

The Excellence Awards incorporated three categories; Best room attendant, Exceptional public area attendant and Best supervisor-room. Winners will walk away with a cash prize and a certificate.

The winners are as follows: Best room attendant - Florencio Rodrigues, Mina Al Salam, Madinat Jumeirah (winner), Sabab Hussain, Hilton Dubai The Walk (runner-up). Exceptional public area attendant - Tina So, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi (winner), Amila Sampath, Madinat Jumeirah Resort; Best public area attendant - Badria Mohamed, Grand Hyatt Dubai and Abilash Valappil, Kempinski, Mall of the Emirates (joint winners), Aireen Alipio, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi (runner-up).

Work has begun in full swing for next year’s expo, which is expected to grow by 30 per cent. Moreover CMEP is all set to expand its wings; the next edition will play host to Laundrex and Middle East Car Wash. Laundrex will be a platform for the laundry service industry, whereas, Middle East Car Wash will stage several local and international brands including the petroleum industry.

“It is a satisfying experience; the CMEP Expo was a success. There was a lot of business conducted, but, moreover, it was beneficial to all stakeholders, as we created a heightened sense of knowledge through the expo. Next year, CMEP is set to grow as we welcome two new expos that will benefit the region with its strategic positioning. It gives us pride to announce that the next Clean Middle East Expo will be held in November 2015,” commented Jayaraman Nair, chairman, VIS
