Al Ain Reads Book Show Attracts Thousands To Al Ain Convention Centre

Al Ain Convention Centre – the city’s leading event venue – is currently hosting the sixth edition of Al Ain Reads book show. Ending on Sunday 2 November, the event has attracted more than 30,000 attendees and showcases 55,000 titles to local book enthusiasts, covering subjects ranging from science, to culture and literature.

The event has drawn 68 exhibitors, and offers access to premium published works in both English and Arabic.

Obaid Al Shamisi, Director of Al Ain Convention Centre, said: “This annual event is a celebration of our thriving reading culture here in Al Ain and in Abu Dhabi. It is one of our most important events, and a unique cultural platform for local residents and families to explore their reading interests.

“Our team here is fully prepared to accommodate and assist all attendees, offering them a uniquely wholesome literary experience. We urge the community to take full advantage of the numerous educational activities on offer.”

The event, which brings together children, families and young adults under an exclusive cultural platform, includes participation from famous poets and authors from the UAE and around the world. Students are benefiting from exclusive morning access to the book fair, as well as the fun, cultural activities.

Contributing to a recent book publishing campaign launched in the UAE and supported by national publishing agencies, the show has witnessed steady growth since launch. Through events celebrating the Emirati literature scene involving authors, poets and publishers, the show promotes reading and writing among the local population.

The 2014 show is also providing local and expatriate students with a chance to learn about the cultural heritage of the UAE through interactive storytelling, competitions and crafts. Poetry evenings, book signings, and panel discussions with renowned writers are also featured, along with a “Creativity Corner” designated to inspire young children to read. Attendees are encouraged to enjoy the full range of activities and showcase their poetic talents by participating in the open mic sessions.

Al Ain Reads book show has witnessed the return of the “Book Exchange” event, where visitors can exchange their old books for others from a distinguished collection of books that have been carefully selected to appeal to all tastes and ages.

Additionally, as part of their commitment to encourage reading as a hobby, Abu Dhabi Authority for Tourism and Culture has announced a 50% discount on all 1,400 of their books, including selections from Dar El Kotob publications, the Kalima translation project, the “Kalam” project for Emirati authors and works from the Historic Environment department.
