Abu Dhabi becomes headquarters of International Council on Archives











The board of directors of the International Council on Archives (ICA) has approved Abu Dhabi as the headquarters of the organisation. It also approved a number of amendments in the ICA’s charter and activity plan for 2009/2010. The ICA board, which started today a three-day meeting at the Al-Raha Beach Hotel, also approved a marketing and promotion plan presented by Dr. Abdullah Al-Reis, Director of the National Centre for Documentation and Research (NCDR), who is also the ICA board chairman. The plan aims at developing archives internationally. According to Dr. Al-Reis, the ICA board had approved its plans for joint activities with the UNESCO and the Blue Shield Organisation. It had also approved the holding of annual congress in Malta in November this year, while its annual congress for the next three years will be held in Norway, Spain and Australia, respectively. He said the board discussed a number of issues related to archiving and documentation in the world, including challenges which the ICA is likely to face as a result of the global economic crisis. He commended Minister of Presidential Affairs and NCDR board chairman for his unstinting support for the ICA and archive issues in the world. Speakers at the meeting include, ICA President, who also expressed profound gratitude to Sheikh Mansour for his support for his outfit and for hosting the ICA headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
