Al Qasba To Stage ’The Tiger Who Came To Tea’

Play to be performed on May 12th is based on one of the most celebrated children’s short stories

Al Qasba, Sharjah’s premier leisure, tourist and family destination will stage ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’, a play based on the celebrated children’s short story of the same name. Written by German-born British author Judith Kerr in 1968, the story has been hugely popular with generations of children and is one of many works which has seen the author awarded numerous prestigious children’s literature awards.

Directed by Officer of the Order of the British Empire holder David Wood, who also composed its music and adapted the story for the stage, the play will be performed at Al Qasba Theatre three times on May 12th, with different show times for different audience ages. Performed in English and suitable for all nationalities, the first two shows, at 9:00am and at 11:00am are tailored to children from 2 to 6 years old, with the last show at 5:00pm open to audiences of all ages.

The play starts with Sophie and her mother having an ordinary day at home, sitting down for tea, when the doorbell rings. The story begins with them wondering who could it be, and develops into a thrilling beautiful adventure that children will enjoy. Already successfully staged at the world’s most celebrated theatres, the play has been designed an effective interactive show both for children who already love the best seller book The Tiger Who Came to Tea, and for those yet to read it. The organisers hope that it will be an interesting experience for all of the children who attend the shows.

Sultan Shattaf, Al Qasba manager said; “Al Qasba is delighted to present rich and diverse literary activities from different countries and cultures to children in the UAE. Hosting the most celebrated international plays, such as this production which has been performed at the world’s leading theatres, helps to break down barriers and borders and promotes cross-cultural understand in young minds.  The Tiger Who Came to Tea was praised by children and their parents across the world.
