Sharjah Statistics To Share Global Spotlight On Use Of Data For Community Development

The Sharjah Department of Statistics and Community Development, DSCD, has announced its participation in the 15th conference of the International Association for Official Statistics, IAOS 2016.

The event will be hosted in Abu Dhabi from 6th to 8th of December. More than 500 top officials, policy makers and experts will be attending and DSCD will showcase a range of modern statistical methods and practices it has used during the ‘Sharjah Census 2015’, highlighting its key results.

DSCD will also present a working paper illustrating the advanced technologies it adopted in collecting highly accurate spatial statistical data during ‘Citizen Survey 2013’, ‘Service Survey 2014’ and ‘Sharjah Census 2015’.

DSCD combines the mission and utilisation of data collection to enhance community development in line with the vision of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and his guidance to ensure the sustainable welfare and happiness of Sharjah citizens.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani, Chairman of DSCD, said, "The IAOS 2016 conference is a global gathering for statistical experts from across the globe. It provides the ideal platform to highlight best practices in statistical data management and strengthen cooperation between the various bodies locally, regionally and globally. The conference also provides a valuable opportunity to share expertise and knowledge on how to implement statistical processes and develop effective statistical services in the best possible manner," he added.

"We look forward to introducing participants to our work and the experience we have gained over the years, culminating in the Sharjah Census 2015, which is an outstanding achievement in statistical work. We aspire to attract the best global practices that can be applied to build a more comprehensive and sustainable statistical system as part of our quest to not only stay abreast, but take a leading role in developing statistical work," he said.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Statistics Centre, the IAOS 2016 Conference will take place under the theme, ‘The Spirit of Official Statistics: Partnership and Continuous Innovation’ at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. This is the first time that an Arab country has won the bid to organise this renowned international conference, a new achievement that emphasises the UAE's growing position and leading attraction as a host for major events.
