Abu Dhabi To Harness AI In Judicial System

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, ADJD, has launched the first phase of "Justice Intelligence" project, as part of the government's Artificial Intelligence, AI, strategy and the UAE Centennial 2071.

Yousuf Alabri, Under-Secretary of the ADJD, stated that other phases of the initiative will be rolled out during the first quarter of 2018, with the aim of delivering digital transformation and making justice accessible to all.

The ADJD has become a regional leader in harnessing AI and machine learning in the justice sector, he added.

"Justice Intelligence will provide leaders and decision-makers in the ADJD with a database that includes potentially challenging scenarios and problem-solving mechanisms. It will also improve the efficiency and services of the judiciary and reduce operational costs and expenses, by using future prediction scenarios, AI analyses and human behaviour simulation," he explained.

Khawla Al Qubaisi, Director of IT at the ADJD, said that the project’s first phase will employ AI in predicting case settlement times at criminal courts.

"Advanced and complex algorithms can predict case settlement times by up to 94 percent," she added.

The second phase will analyse the prediction of litigation times in civilian courts, as well as crime patterns, she further added.
