Sharjah looks to tap immense potential of business tourism market in the region

Sharjah has registered a strong presence at the GIBTM, Abu Dhabi with the emirate’s business tourism infrastructure attracting visitors’ attention at the premiere exhibition in the capital. The event was formally inaugurated by HE Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, who visited the Sharjah stand after the opening and was briefed on the tourism strategies and MICE industry of the emirate.

Speaking on the occasion, HE Mohamed Ali Al Noman, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority said that business tourism has emerged as a critical player in global tourism and Sharjah is keen to tap the immense potential of this huge market in the region.

Pointing out that business tourism contributes immensely to the economy and GDP of a nation, Al Noman said that with its ideal location and world-class infrastructure and facilities like the Expo Center and Sharjah Chamber of Commerce, Sharjah is ideally suited to host international conferences and business meetings.

“Sharjah not only enjoys the distinction of pioneering business tourism when there were few MICE facilities in the UAE and the region, it is today home to nearly half of the UAE’s industries and manufacturing sector. So the prospects for business tourism in the emirate known for its busy calendar of cultural events and festivals are infinite,” emphasised the SCTDA Chairman.

The SCTDA is heading a delegation of Sharjah government departments and private sector players of the hospitality and MICE sectors. Al Noman said that Sharjah’s presence at the GIBTM this year is very special and showcases the best of the emirate’s infrastructure, business tourism facilities and tourist attractions at the exhibition being held at ADNEC ground in Abu Dhabi until March 28.

Sharjah is participating for the sixth consecutive year in the premiere exhibition that has emerged as the most important networking and brainstorming event of the MICE tourism in the Middle East.

A number of meetings and consultations with international exhibitors, tourism bodies, travel agencies and media have been lined up at Sharjah’s pavilion celebrating its USP of heritage and culture. Al Noman said he hoped of positive outcome from these efforts leading to an increase in business and incentives tourism in Sharjah in months and years ahead.

GIBTM brings together buyers and suppliers from regional and international sectors, opening doors to new business and communication opportunities between investors, tourism players and businessmen.
