Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Launches Exhibition Part Of French-Emirati Cultural Dialogue 2018-2019

To celebrate 'Year of Zayed' and in parallel with the French-Emirati Cultural Dialogue 2018-2019, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, is organising an exclusive exhibition in the UAE in collaboration with the CEFAS, the French Institute and the French Alliance. The exhibition entitled 'The French Cultural Diplomacy in the UAE at the time of Sheikh Zayed (1974-2004)' will open from Sunday 14 October until Sunday 28 October in the university’s atrium.

This event will outline the different projects and activities organised by the French institutions in the UAE to promote the teaching of French in the country and to shed light on the French Emirati cultural dialogue during the last 40 years (1974-2004) during the era of Sheikh Zayed.

This Exhibition will highlight the history of the French Cultural Diplomacy in the UAE from the country’s foundation to the 2000’s. It presents archival papers, photographs and documents, never made public before, from the Centre of Diplomatic Archives in Nantes, France and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Centre for Diplomatic Archives (Courneuve) about the French Alliance and the French Institute in the UAE during the time of Sheikh Zayed.

Dr. Luc Chantre, post-doctoral researcher at CEFAS and the curator of the exhibition, said: "This exhibition is a way to remind what the main challenges of the French Cultural Diplomacy in the UAE were, at the time of Sheikh Zayed, by using a wide range of archival records."

On the 14th, a literature Majlis held in French on the same topic will open the exhibition. Dr. Luc Chantre, will narrate one of the thrilling adventures of the French-Emirati cultural dialogue.
