Abu Dhabi School Of Government Completes Pilot Programme For 1,000 Government Employees

New Government Employment Charter to standardize best practices of government service, aims to train 30,000 employees in 2019

The Abu Dhabi School of Government (ADSG) has announced the launch of the Government Employment Charter, a programme of workshops that will ensure the values of the Abu Dhabi government are instilled in all government employees.

The charter was developed to shed light on the principles of government service, which will form the main pillars of government employees' code of conduct in Abu Dhabi. Each element of the charter is designed to ensure that all government employees perform their work according to established priorities that place the nation and the community’s interest to the fore. It will also highlight the key components of both the federal and Abu Dhabi government systems, while providing relevant information on the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Around one thousand learners have now completed the charter’s pilot programme. The ADSG aims to enroll a further 30,000 employees from across Abu Dhabi’s government entities to complete the programme during 2019, equipping them with the principles, skills, and behaviors that will support Abu Dhabi’s transformative vision.

The programme is based around the fundamental principles promoted by the founding father of the UAE, The Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to build the government system for the emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is based upon five principles – Loyalty, Excellence & Pioneering, Efficiency & Effectiveness, Personal and Public Responsibility, and Integrity.

His Excellency Dr Mohamed Rashed Al Hameli, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, commented: “The new charter will form the foundation of the ADSG curriculum. It will be an important element in ensuring that government employees understand the purpose and values of government work, and guarantee that they lead the nation currently and in the future with a complete grasp of the values required to succeed.

“We believe it is crucial that we inspire our learners with these values, and we will ensure that every one of them successfully completes the charter in the years to come so they can exemplify the principles we are working towards in Abu Dhabi,” Dr Al Hameli added.

The charter also carries senior leadership support from His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. It aims to translate the leadership’s vision for Abu Dhabi to be regarded as one of the best governments in the world and to build a sustainable, open, and globally competitive economy driven by the customs and traditions of the people of the UAE.

The ADSG was created according to Law No. 15 of 2018 decreed by the President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and is the government entity responsible for overseeing the learning and development of all Abu Dhabi Government employees. Its remit is to develop the most effective government workforce for the emirate through the provision of high quality training and development activities tailored to Abu Dhabi’s context and needs.

The ADSG is working with leading educational providers to ensure that all entrants to the Academy receive comprehensive and diversified world-class learning through a combination of online and classroom tutorials that will provide managerial, support and leadership skills required by government entities in the present and the future.
