Abu Dhabi Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) has participated in a three-day conference organised in Washington by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) to discuss a number of issues related to accountancy standards and economic and financial indices.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of reputable economic and financial bodies including many financial market regulatory authorities from various parts of the world, the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and the World Bank (WB).

The SCA, which has gained membership of both the International Ethics Standards Board for Accountants (IESBA) and the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) CAGS, was represented at the meeting by Dr. Obaid Al-Za’abi, SCA Research Advisor and Director of Research and Development Department.

The conference discussed a number of standards from academic and practical points of view. It also highlighted new developments in accountancy, auditing and assurance standards, in addition to principles of ethics in accountancy and Audit.

It’s worth noting here that the SCA enjoys a wide and strong presence on the international scene through its proactive participation in many international forums and membership in international organisations, including the IOSCO and the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB). It is also a signatory to about 26 memoranda with its counterparts from various parts of the world and other international bodies related to financial markets. This is in addition to the fact that Abu Dhabi is the headquarters of the Union of Arab Securities Authorities for which Abdullah Al-Turifi, SCA Chief Executive, is the secretary general for the third consecutive year.
