Children’s Marine Day On Abu Dhabi Corniche On Thursday











As part of Clean up Arabia 2009 Campaign, which is being organized by the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the Emirates Diving Association, under the Patronage of H.H Sheikh Hazza Bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a “Kids Marine Day” will be organized on Thursday (November 19, 2009). Children of all ages will be able to participate in interactive games and activities to learn more about the UAE’s fragile marine environment.

Kids Marine Day is being organised from 5-8 pm on the Abu Dhabi Corniche, opposite ADCO, and all activities will be available free of charge to for children ages 6 and above. They will be given the opportunity to learn about the UAE’s marine ecosystems and marine life and how they can be conserved.

Children will be able to participate in a Treasure Hunt, especially designed to get them thinking of the marine environment. At the Storytelling Corner, children can listen to exciting stories about the sea and fishing from the UAE’s past. In the Drawing & Coloring Corner, the younger children will be able to express how they feel about their favourite marine habitats.

Children will be introduced to the UAE’s precious marine life through the “Do you know Your Marine Environment?” game and through a slide show on marine species living in the UAE water.

The day will also include a Clean Up of the Corniche Beach to raise awareness about the harmful impacts that litter and marine debris have on health and the marine environment. The waste collected by the children will be segregated and then sent for recycling.

On November 20, 2009 the Eastern Mangroves and Shore clean-up using kayaks will be held æin collaboration with the Noukhada Adventure Company from 8 am to 12 noon.

On November 21, 2009, 60 divers and more than 120 volunteers are confirmed to clean up Al Mirfa Fishermen’s Port, seabed and public beach. The campaign will run from 8 am until 1 pm.

Meanwhile, also on November 21, volunteers will gather in Dibba, Fujairah for another clean-up campaign, held under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah and Member of the Supreme Council and in collaboration with Dibba Municipality.
