Singapore-Based Leading Innovator To Impart Best Practices During The Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum 2010











A world-renowned expert and a leading innovator – Professor Arcot Desai Narasimhalu, Director of Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Chairman of The Business Innovation Generator, Singapore Management University – is to give one of the keynote speeches at the first Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum presented by the Abu Dhabi University and Khalifa Fund for Enterprise Development.

The Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum, scheduled to take place on January 11th & 12th, 2010 at the Shangri La Qaryat Al Beri Hotel in Abu Dhabi, is an event made specifically for local businesses and associations, academic and government heads from all sectors responsible for building a culture of innovation. Some of the most innovative minds in the region and beyond will meet to deliver a well-researched program, designed for those organisations interested in forging ahead, progressing and fostering new ideas during this modern time in one of the world’s emerging markets, Abu Dhabi.

Desai has 35 years of IT based innovation experience and has directed the development of technologies that have been commercialised. He is presently a Practice Professor of Information Systems at Singapore Management University’s School of Information Systems and is also concurrently the Director of its Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

His presentation, entitled “Creating Innovations That Matter”, will include successful innovations that can be used to benchmark and qualify new innovations. He will also discuss topics on how to translate such innovations into successful products and services, including various approach in identifying innovations that matter and innovations in a systematic manner.

Desai relates, “It is heartening to see Abu Dhabi focus on the importance of Innovation for its economic future. I am delighted to contribute to their quest for understanding the role of innovation in growing the nation’s economy,” he said.

“In this modern period, Innovation is considered as a key contributor to organisational success as well as one of the core processes that every organisation should employ to sustain competitive advantage. We are privileged to know Professor Desai’s expertise on Innovation and his broad experience in Singapore. The Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum serves as the perfect avenue to learn some of the leading innovations achieved in Singapore and emulate them in Abu Dhabi in the long run,” said His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of Abu Dhabi University.

In his book titled “Innovation Rules”, Desai tackled a step by step approach towards identifying new innovation opportunities. Organised in three sections, the book introduced twenty five innovation rules that reflect how innovations have progressed over time. It also explained how the innovation rules can be used to identify possible innovation opportunities and how to choose innovations for commercialisation.

“Drivers of successful innovations are either the pain experienced or the craving for enhanced experience by a group of would be customers. The more acute the pain and the larger the group suffering from it the bigger the value created from such an innovation,” Desai added.

Since 1998, Desai has been involved in helping create technology-based start ups and has worked closely with several founding teams. He is also a business advisor to several start up companies and is a Director of Singapore-based Business Angel’s Network South East Asia (BANSEA).

The Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum, jointly organised by Abu Dhabi University (ADU) and Khalifa Fund will also bring regional and international speakers to Abu Dhabi to discuss and inform on the latest trends and best case examples on Innovation.
