Arabic superstars join stellar line-up of musicians to perform free at Wakestock Abu Dhabi

Lebanese superstar Carole Samaha to headline the first night of Wakestock

Flash Entertainment in partnership with the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City and Abu Dhabi Beaches has announced the stellar line-up of free live music will feature some of the region’s hottest stars, including Carole Samaha and Fady Andraos.

The two critically acclaimed Arabic artists will perform alongside alternative rock band Maximo Park and hip hop legends De La Soul at the free Wakestock Abu Dhabi festival on the Corniche’s Al Sahil beach, 4-6 March.

The first night of the festival, Thursday 4th March, will see Lebanese superstar Carole Samaha wow the crowds with some of her biggest hits. Carole started her career as an actress, and discovered her love of singing through musicals. She launched her singing career in 2003 with the album “Helm”, which took the Arab market by storm and won her the Best New Arab Female Singer award in the same year. Her following across the world has grown with each of her three subsequent albums, and thousands of adoring fans are expected to turn up for the free concert on the Corniche.

The talented Fady Andaos will rock the Corniche on the Friday night after the sun sets on the penultimate night of the festival. Fady was discovered after reaching the semi finals in a popular Arab reality show, and shot to fame as the lead in a Lebanese sitcom Fady & Rady. His first single, “B Alby Dally”, was released in July 2007 and with its innovative mix of rock and eastern music it went straight to the Arabic music charts.

John Lickrish, Managing Director of Flash Entertainment commented:
‘‘We are really excited about the programme for Wakestock Abu Dhabi. Irrespective of age and background, Wakestock Abu Dhabi offers something for everyone with its unique combination of top regional and international artists by night and jaw-dropping wakeboarding action by day. The three day festival is free, and we hope to welcome the entire community down to the Corniche to join in the fun.”

Mark Durston, Wakestock founder and CEO, said:
“The eclectic programme of live music offers the perfect soundtrack for an amazing long weekend. With the inimitable friendly Wakestock atmosphere and the beautiful setting on the Corniche in the heart of Abu Dhabi, this is set to be one of the best festivals yet.”

Wakeboarding documentaries will be shown on big screens before the evening entertainment starts with live music and DJs. Visitors to the event can also expect rider signings and live broadcasts from Radio 1 throughout the festival.

A wakeboarding Beginner’s Park has been installed on Al Sahil beach on the Corniche to give people an opportunity to try the sport in the run up to the festival. Using overhead cable and tow ropes to pull the rider along the water on a wakeboard, it offers beginners the ideal way to get started and it is open 12pm – 6 pm from Tuesday to Saturday.

Together with its partner Etihad Airways, Flash is also offering the public the chance to win the opportunity to visit Wakestock UK. VIP tickets and flights are included in the grand prize and to win all you need to do is enter your details on the Wakestock Abu Dhabi website: www.wakestock.ae.

Wakestock Abu Dhabi 2010 is a free community event bought to the capital by the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City and Abu Dhabi Beaches, running from 1pm until late each day 4th– 6th March, 2010.
