ADACH Announces Artist Line Up For WOMAD Abu Dhabi











Arabs top pop star Hakeem, will perform in the opening concert of WOMAD Abu Dhabi to be kicked off in the capital next month.

Egyptian popular singer Hakeem, along with a dazzling line-up of over 35 artists over the three-day festival organized in collaboration between Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) and WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance).

"A renewed strategic partnership is consolidated between the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and WOMAD through an agreement of partnership for another three years of collaboration to celebrate music, art, and creative artists via a long lasting relationship between the artists and their audience in Abu Dhabi" said Abdullah Al Ameri, Director of Culture and Arts Department at ADACH, in a press conference at Hilton Abu Dhabi.

"Abu Dhabi has become an authentic part of the arts, literature and culture world, and a vibrating container to creativity and talents, especially for renowned artists. Our capital is distinguished by its deep-rooted culture and stimulation to artists and musicians who came here to be inspired from its Oriental environment in such a unique art event that grasped a wonderful success. This is another testimony to Abu Dhabi as an international cultural and arts hub" Al Ameri added.

Hakeem expressed his gratitude to be chosen to perform in WOMAD this year "any artist wish to be part of WOMAD especially in Abu Dhabi with its growing reputation as a hub for world arts" he said in the press conference.

In its second year, this year’s WOMAD Abu Dhabi promises to be even more spectacular than the 2009 musical extravaganza, according to Isadora Papadrakakis, Performing Arts Advisor at ADACH.

Line-up for April 22nd and 23rd on Abu Dhabi Corniche announced.

The programme of artists’ performances for the first two nights will be a m lange of multi-cultural music and dance.

On 22nd April 2010, the festival will be officially opened with pulsating rhythms and infectious energy of the Drummers of Burundi, followed by a special performance by children who participated in the WOMAD Beyond workshops.

Folk music group Hanggai, will be bringing sounds from the Mongolian grasslands, followed by the Palestine ensemble, Le Trio Joubran, French musicians Babylon Circus and then an exciting collaboration between Pakistani singer Faiz Ali Faiz and French musician Titi Robin.

Renowned Nigerian male vocalist Femi Kuti will continue the evening’s entertainment, with a rousing finale performed by the highlight of the night’s events, Egyptian legend Hakim.

Friday 23rd April promises to be equally enthralling with Egyptian/Sudanese musicians, Rango, kicking off the evening performances, followed by the UAE’s very own ABRI with their soulful blend of Jazz and R&B.

British group Transglobal Underground will follow the Chemirani’s, from Iran, and finally Rachid Taha, Algerian superstar, will bring an awesome close to the night. Of course, no WOMAD festival is complete without interactive activities for everyone. WOMAD artists will entertain visitors with a variety of music, dance and creative workshops, as well as even cooking dishes from their home countries for Taste the World.

In addition to this exceptional line-up, WOMAD Abu Dhabi will shortly be announcing the line-up for Saturday 24th April, as well as the full line-up of artists performing at Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain.

For 2010 ADACH and WOMAD are delighted to be able to build on the previous WOMAD Beyond project conceived in 2009. This year a programme of ’creative learning’ has been designed, with artists from Abu Dhabi and around the world introducing music, vocals, percussion and the visual arts to young people. Details of this extended programme will be announced shortly.
