Abu Dhabi Ship Building Showcasing Major Naval Defence Projects At DIMDEX 2010 In Qatar

Gulf’s only specialised warship builder to host VIP reception during event to discuss regional and international maritime trends

Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), the leading shipbuilder and naval support services provider and the only specialised Naval Warship builder in the Gulf region, is presenting its latest major naval defence projects during the 2nd Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2010) running from March 29 to 31, 2010 at the Doha Exhibition Center in Doha, Qatar.

ADSB is hosting a special VIP Reception on the first day to showcase key projects led by its new 72m Baynunah Class Corvettes. It will show a presentation of its Baynunah vessels operating on the sea for the first time and introduce visitors to its new branding strategy at its 99 sqm stand.

Being held under the support of the Qatar Armed Forces and hosted by the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, DIMDEX 2010 remains the only specialized maritime defence exhibition in the Middle East. The event has gathered naval shipyards, warship design, build, modernization and repair companies, warships contractors, and manufacturers and suppliers of onboard systems to showcase the very latest technologies to meet the maritime security challenges of the 21st century.

“Naval defence remains a critical regional concern, and so as the Middle East’s only trade event dedicated to maritime defence, DIMDEX enables major industry players such as ADSB to assess how we are meeting critical defence requirements and what our future directions should be. We expect to attract greater interest throughout the event this year thanks to key partnerships with some of the region’s top defence authorities we signed contracts with last year. ADSB will continue to explore prospective GCC projects that will further expand our regional presence this year,” said Homaid Al Shemmari, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Ship Building.

ADSB Chairman Humaid Al Shemmari will join special guests in discussing regional and international maritime trends and opportunities during the VIP Reception. The shipbuilder will also launch its new website and present four of its most popular vessels: 72m Corvettes and 27m Patrol Boats for the UAE Navy; 64m Landing Craft exported to the Royal Navy of Oman; and 16m High Speed Interceptors for the UAE Critical National Infrastructure Authority.

Abu Dhabi Ship Building’s AED 1.16 billion revenue and AED 114 million net profit for the period ending December 31, 2009 represented the shipbuilder’s third consecutive year of solid financial growth and the highest in the company’s history. ADSB is a Public Joint Stock Company listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. It is owned 40 per cent by Mubadala Investment Company, 10 per cent by Abu Dhabi Government, and 50 per cent by national shareholders.
