Emirates Foundation partners with Rotana in support of Environmental Internships

Rotana, the leading Hotel Management Company in the Middle East and North Africa, announced its continued partnership with the Emirates Foundation, the nationwide philanthropic organization, by offering Dhs. 5 for every room night during the month of June 2010 towards the Foundation’s Environmental Internship project.

This second Emirates Foundation-Rotana initiative is expected to generate some AED 450,000 in support of environmental Internships. This initiative will fund up to 50 Emirati students from universities throughout the UAE - each fulfilling a minimum of two months’ internship in the environmental field. The students will be able to intern in government agencies, NGOs, and businesses - promoting awareness and encouraging career choices that contribute to the nation’s environmental sustainability.

"This announcement comes as a result of Rotana’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and has been initiated across Rotana’s 21 properties in the UAE, throughout the month of June," said Mr. Selim El Zyr, President ’&’ CEO of Rotana.

Mr El Zyr added: "We are indeed very privileged to be associated with the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy. We strongly believe that this initiative, which is part of Rotana’s contributions to the Foundation, will support the new Environmental Internship project -- encouraging Emirati youth to promote environmental awareness and make career choices that contribute to the nation’s environmental sustainability." Commenting on this news, Dr. Peter Cleaves, CEO of the Emirates Foundation said: "The Foundation is very grateful that Rotana is assisting us to develop the skills and competencies of Emirati young people. Many of the students will use this internship as a launching pad for their future careers in the environmental field - an aim that is fully consistent with the Foundation’s mission." For the Environmental Internship project, the Foundation will collaborate with universities in the UAE offering environmental science or relevant programs - so as to identify intern candidates, encourage relevant agencies to receive the volunteers, and to supervise the volunteer’s activities. Foundation funding will provide stipends for the interns and a fee for the university representatives for each supervised intern.
