ADMAF Brings Drumming Circles To Children With Special Needs Innovative Artistic Initiative Ehnhances Children’s Self Expression

The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) provided a unique opportunity to children with special needs to express themselves through art, during a community drum circles session conducted by Dubai Drums. This initiative which recently took place at the Al Noor Training Centre in Dubai, is part of the Foundation’s ongoing efforts to bring art to the UAE communities through its year round community programme.

The drumming session at the Al Noor Training Centre helped children with special needs to discover new ways of expressing themselves and contributed to enhancing their communications skills and building their confidence. The children were able to channel their enthusiasm through a group artistic initiative that also allowed them to bond with one another as a team.

Dubai Drums, an energetic community group who use drumming to bring people together, was established eight years ago by trained drum facilitator Julie-Ann Odell. The group uses rhythm work and group drumming as tools for team building, with the aim of reaching “unity through rhythm”. Dubai Drums has conducted community drum circles for schools, festival and communities across the UAE and the Gulf region. The group also participated in the Abu Dhabi Festival’s community programme.

The group’s objective to unite people in this unique way is in line with the spirit of ADMAF’s commitment to offer access to the arts for everyone across the seven emirates through a deeply rooted community programme.
