Abu Dhabi Will Host The 35th Japan Cooperation Forum For The Middle East











Japanese government officials, policy makers, business leaders, representatives from the private sector and their Middle East counterparts will convene at the Intercontinental Hotel for the 35th Japan Cooperation Forum for the Middle East in Abu Dhabi, organized by the Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME) in collaboration with the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi.

Commenting on holding the forum in Abu Dhabi, Hamad Al-Mass, Executive Director for International Economic Relations at the Department of Economic Development said:, "Japan is an important partner for Abu Dhabi, and the UAE is home to the biggest Japanese business community in the Middle East. This event is a great opportunity to promote the emirate to more than 320 decision makes and business leaders, the biggest JCCME Forum overseas to date, explain our economic strategy, present investment opportunities, and foster interaction with the local business community." He added that within its mandate to facilitate international cooperation, the DED is hosting the office of the Japanese Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME) in its premises since 2009. "This has been instrumental in bringing the 35th JCCME annual conference to Abu Dhabi, further promoting the emirate as a globally competitive business destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions", he said.

Hiroshi Okuda, chairman, JCCME, stated that the relationship between Japan and Abu Dhabi is developing from the traditional strong ties involving stable supply of oil and natural gas, to expand into new dimensions such as infrastructure development and industrialization of the country, as well as to areas of education and culture. He added that "establishment of a multi-layered relationship" are the key words.

The two-days forum will host an elite list of speakers from the Japanese Government and the private sector, in addition to a number of Japanese ambassadors in the region.

It will also feature five country reports presented by Toshiro Suzuki, Director General, Middle East and African Affairs Bureau, and five Japanese Ambassadors in the MENA region; in addition to three business reports from Sojitz Corporation, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd, and Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East. It will include five Activity Reports by the public organizations: Nippon Export ’&’ Investment Insurance (NEXI), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), New Energy ’&’ Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC).

The forum will conclude with a panel discussion attended by Mr. Hideichi Okada, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry, Mr. Toshiro Suzuki, Director General, Middle East ’&’ African Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Junzo Shimizu, President and CEO, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Mr. Tsunehisa Katsumata, Chairman, Tokyo Electric Power Company and Mr. Yoshihiro Shigehisa, Chairman Emeritus of JGC Group, JGC Corporation M. Iwao Okamoto, President of JCCME will conclude the two days forum with closing remarks, aiming at paving the way to an even better business relationship between Japan and UAE.

JCCME was established in 1973, through the joint efforts of the Japanese government and the private sector, with the aim to develop and enhance relations between Japan and the MENA region. The forum was first held in Vienna, Austria since 1979.
