Abu Dhabi’S Flying Falcon Hoping To Claw Back Title In Germany

Championship Deciding Head-To-Head Battle To Draw Huge Lausitz Crowds

Coming off the back of three wins, Abu Dhabi’s Flying Falcon has put in a sterling display to claw his way back into title contention after a shaky start and is on-course to be the first pilot in Red Bull Air Race’s seven-year history to win four out of six events in one season.

Taking place at the legendary EuroSpeedway Lausitz in Germany, which is known for its lightening quick racing, Arch is keen to maintain his winning ways and snatch bragging-rights from what is expected to be one of the most fiercely-contested air races to date.

And further adding to the anticipation, Arch is also keen to avenge his 2009 title defeat to Bonhomme, after the Briton snatched a last-gasp victory in last year’s Barcelona season finale to beat the Abu Dhabi pilot on the last run.

“There is no glory in second place. I definitely want to be first,” Arch said. “The championship is still very much within reach, and I will do all I can to make the most out of this opportunity and bring the title back to Team Abu Dhabi.

“Overcoming a five-point deficit in one race is really a daunting challenge. This requires nothing less than attaining the maximum 13 points from qualifying and the race itself, while hoping Paul falters. I will surely give it my best shot,” Arch added.

The shortened Red Bull Air Race 2010 season, after cancellation of the Portugal and Hungary legs, has thrown the championship wide-open. Nigel Lamb from Great Britain currently sits in third, one point adrift of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA)-backed Arch, meaning the top three pilots are all still in contention for the title.

And with only six points separating the leading trio, the race is as much Bonhomme’s to lose as it is Arch’s to win, so all pilots will be looking at putting in a career defining performance.

“I’ll do my best to win the race and then sit back and wait for Paul to make a mistake. This is my best season ever and we’ve never flown better as a team… and everyone knows that. My goal is to come away from Germany with the championship,” added Arch, the 2008 title holder.

The final 2010 round will be staged for the first time over a motorsport track at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz - one of Europe’s most modern test and race courses. And being a world-class circuit, spectators seated in the EuroSpeedway grandstand will have an unrivalled view of pilots as they prepare their planes for the race as well as when they take off and land from the runway – something which was not possible in previous races.

While most Red Bull Air Races are held over rivers, lakes or ocean shorelines, such as the opening round over the scenic Corniche in Abu Dhabi, there have been only a handful of races held on land in the event’s history – such as Longleat (UK), Berlin, Monument Valley (USA) and Interlaken (Switzerland).
