ADEC Selects A Specialized Operator To Run Two Schools That Will Accommodate "Villa Schools Students"

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has selected Universal Future Education (UFE), an education services company with qualified educators and consultants, to operate two new low-fee private schools utilizing vacant government school facilities. The two schools were made available for the private sector in order to accommodate students who were previously attending six schools operating out of villas which were ordered to cease operations by June 2010.

6th of August School located in Muroor will offer an ADEC-approved English-language curriculum with supplementary Philippine language and cultural studies to accommodate those students who previously attended the villa school Pioneer’s International. The school provides sufficient capacity for all 450 students who previously attended Pioneer’s international, and will create additional supply with a total capacity of 1,323 students. The school will provide a high quality American-focused KG-12 education. ADEC officials are working closely with a curriculum expert from the Philippines to ensure a smooth transition for those who opt to return to the Philippines for their higher education.

The Saad bin Obaidah School located in Baniyas will provide an Arabic-language Ministry of Education curriculum with a capacity to accept 1,089 students. The school will offer a higher quality of education in appropriate school facilities for those students previously attending Azhar Palestine School, Al Sahaba Private School and KG, Al Mashreq Private School, and Cultural Private School. Transportation options will also be provided by the school operators at additional low cost.

UFE has already reached out to the parents of all 561 students who have been pre-registered with information on how to complete the registration and enrollment process. Open registration was held on August 4 and will be carried onwards on-site at both school locations from 10am to 4pm. Parents have been advised that this school year is scheduled to start after Eid around September 13, 2010. For students moving from the closed villa schools fees will approximately range from Dhs. 3,000- 6000 depending on grade level. Additional fees for bus transportation, uniform, and books may also be added after agreement with ADEC. New student enrollments will pay an additional amount that will range between Dhs 500 -1000

Yousif Al Sheryani, Educational Advisor to the Director General of ADEC, said: “We were pleased with Universal Future Education’s proposal and our confidence was reaffirmed after interviewing both the operators and their selected school principals. During the selection process they demonstrated a high degree of knowledge in the education sector, technical and financial ability to implement their plans, and access to manpower resources to mobilize in time for the coming school year..”

Esref Temel, Operations Manager of UFE, said: “UFE is excited about this opportunity to contribute to the development of education in Abu Dhabi. We at UFE firmly believe that there should be equality in educational opportunities for all children. We are devoted to work with ADEC to promote a quality learning experience for our students and raise the scholastic standards of the Emirates to a new level.”

The selection of UFE as the winning school operator was determined after an active bid process considering 15 submitted proposals. Applications were first screened for meeting all legal requirements including official registration, certificates and permits. During the next round of screening, applications were judged on a number of criteria including technical capacity, sound financial backing, and plans to build permanent facilities to house the schools within a period of three years.
