The Souk At Qaryat Al Beri Launches ’Eid At The Souk’

4-day event to showcase ultimate dining and retail destination in Abu Dhabi

The Souk at Qaryat Al Beri, the premier waterfront dining, shopping and entertainment destination located in ’Between the Bridges’ in Abu Dhabi, has announced the start of ‘Festival at the Souk’ today (September 09, 2010), commencing with a four-day celebration of Eid Al-Fitr to provide a fun-filled venue for families in the capital. The event will also mark the first in a series of activities that aims to showcase the project as a leading destination for ultimate shopping experience and leisure in Abu Dhabi.

Among the attractions to be enjoyed during ‘Eid at the Souk’ are traditional entertainment to be provided by Ayalla dancers, Tannoura performers, and Oud and Kanoon players; as well as entertainment for the kids courtesy of jugglers, balloon benders, magicians and clowns. Henna painters, calligraphers, caricaturists, and face painters will also provide added amusement and artistry to the festivities. Characters from the popular cartoon program ‘Freej’ are also set to make an appearance throughout the Souk.

According to a statement from the festival organiser, ”’Eid at the Souk’ will reflect the special nature of the festivities to commemorate the Eid holidays, mixing in traditional Arabic entertainment and flavours with attractions that appeal to both Arab and expatriate families and individuals. Through this 4-day event, we ensure that visiting The Souk at Qaryat Al Beri will be a memorable experience for everyone – from tourists and expatriates experiencing Eid for the first time, to Muslim families gathering to celebrate this joyous event.”

Following the inaugural ‘Eid at the Souk’, company officials have announced plans to host weekly themed events, including ‘Carnival Fridays’, which will feature fair staples such as jugglers, balloon benders, magicians, mime artists, face painters, clowns and the characters from ‘Freej’. ‘Cultural Sundays’ will showcase traditional entertainment, such as Ayallah dancers, henna painting, Arabian storytelling, museum display, coffee and date servings; while ‘Rhythmic Tuesdays’ will host performances by drummers and dancers in a rhythmic beat.

The festival organiser also said in their statement, “The festivities will continue after ‘Eid at the Souk’, as part of our efforts to showcase traditional Arab hospitality at the Souk at Qaryat Al Beri. However, with the reputation of Abu Dhabi as a hub for both leisure and business on the rise, we are also planning to launch various initiatives that will establish the Souk at Qaryat Al Beri as the meeting place of choice for business and leisure.”

Located within ‘Between the Bridges’, next to The Shangri-La in Abu Dhabi, the Souk at Qaryat Al Beri was developed by Qaryat Al Beri Resort Development Company LLC, a joint venture between Al Jaber Group and the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC). Built on two levels, the Souk is an interesting fusion of Arabian and Venetian architecture, featuring water canals, restaurants and coffee shops with alfresco dining terraces. Spread over a total floor area of 6,222 square meters, the entire facility houses F&B outlets, as well as antique shops, banks and exchange houses, apparel stores, gift and jewellery shops, and a supermarket.
