Double Accolade For Imperial College London Diabetes Centre

Abu Dhabi diabetes treatment centre first worldwide to receive dual JCI Accreditations in Ambulatory and Clinical Care

Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), the UAE’s largest specialist medical centre dedicated to the treatment of diabetes, has received its second accolade for superior healthcare in less than a year.

The Centre, established by Mubadala Healthcare in 2006 as part of its strategy to bring world-class medical expertise to the region, was recently awarded the Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation in Clinical Care.

This follows ICLDC’s JCI Accreditation in Ambulatory Care received last year, making it the only healthcare provider worldwide to hold both accreditations.

“The accreditation criteria for JCI’s Clinical Care Program Certification (CCPC) were enhanced two months ago and ICLDC was swift to undergo the meticulous assessment which evaluates clinical services in patient care,” said Dr Maha Taysir Barakat, ICLDC’s Medical & Research Director and Consultant Endocrinologist.

She also confirmed that ICLDC is now the first facility in the Middle East, and third globally to hold JCI’s highly-acclaimed CCPC specifically for the clinical management of diabetes.

Since 1994, Joint Commission International has worked alongside healthcare organisations, health ministries and global organisations in more than 80 countries to improve patient care. They do this through the provision of accreditation and certification services, as well as by advisory and educational services aimed at helping organisations implement practical and sustainable solutions.

Dr Maha advised that the internationally-recognised JCI Accreditation and Certification provide quantifiable benchmarks that focus on the quality of patient care and patient safety.

Meanwhile, Suhail Al Ansari, Associate Director of Mubadala Healthcare and Chairman of ICLDC said: “This is a significant milestone for Imperial College London Diabetes Centre. The JCI accreditations stand in testament to the Centre’s achievements over the past four years, as well as to the tremendous impact it has had on diabetes awareness and treatment in the region.”

Mubadala Healthcare recently announced its plans to expand the services of Imperial College London Diabetes Centre with a second facility in Al Ain, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.
