ADEC Organizes A Training Program On The Use Of Special Needs Equipment











Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has organized a training program for a group of special needs students, parents and special education teachers, to train them on the methods of using advanced hearing aids provided by ADEC to special needs students who have been recently integrated into Abu Dhabi public schools.

Held on 10, 12 and 14 October in Khalifa Award for Education headquarters, the program activities were attended by H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, H.E. Mohammed Fadhil Al Hameli, Secretary General of Zayed Higher Organization (ZHO) for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs and Minors Affairs, and Mr. Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s Executive Director of School Operations.

H.E. Dr. Al Khaili said that ADEC initiatives focuses mainly on developing new programs for special needs students to facilitate their integration in public school by providing them with all types of support and helping them continue their education successfully.

“Parents are encouraged to communicate the needs of their children to ADEC. All stakeholders must cooperate to provide special needs students with equal opportunities as other regular students to demonstrate and best exploit their talents & abilities,” Dr. Al Khaili added.

“The use of FM Personal Systems and hearing aids has been explained during the training workshops. 112 systems have been already distributed to students with hearing impairment, including 70 in Abu Dhabi, 35 in Al Ain and 7 in Al Gharbia. These tools enable students to wirelessly communicate and interact with their teachers and parents,” Dr. Al Khaili pointed out.

In the training workshops, participants are divided into three groups, each consists of 30 students and their parents in addition to 30 teachers i.e. the total number of participants per day is 90.

H.E. Mohammed Fadhil Al Hameli, Secretary General of Zayed Higher Organization, said that ADEC and ZHO collaborated together to provide special needs students with the best educational services and care by signing a partnership agreement for developing the teaching and learning of these students. “Today’s visit to the training program aims to evaluate the progress of our fruitful cooperation. I would like to thank the specialized team members for their efforts to improve the learning environment of our students,” he added.

Ms. Rasha Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Special Education Teacher at Al Mozdalifa C1 School, lauded ADEC support and keenness on providing SEN students with top-class learning tools and technology in order to help them continue their education and be integral part of their schools. “Today’s workshop is only part of the training programs delivered in the areas of special education,” she added.

The parent of a hearing impaired student, Amna Khaled, thanked ADEC for providing the advanced special education equipment, particularly the advanced FM hearing system which helps students communicate in a more effective way to improve their academic skills.

ADEC has provided special needs students with equipment and tools worth AED 3.5 million. These equipment and tools included special laptops, Data Shows, Smart Boards, Braille Printers, Electronic Magnification Kits, Portable Magnifiers, Talking calculator, Perkins Braille, Tactile globe, Derbi Share Language Test Kit, and others.

The specific learning needs of SN students integrated into ADEC public schools across the emirate of Abu Dhabi have been identified by the Committee for Identifying Equipment of Special Needs Students in order to facilitate their education and enable them interact positively and ideally with the learning environment.

Many students from Abu Dhabi Rehabilitation & Care Center for People with Special Needs have been integrated into public schools this year in addition to 23 home students. They include 8 students with physical and health impairment, 3 students with mental impairment, 4 autistic students, 8 students with hearing problems, 3 students with severe educational difficulties and 21 students with hearing impairment. In addition, 15 students have been integrated into higher education institutions.
