MEED To Host Prestigious Gathering Of Key Decision-Makers At Abu Dhabi Conference 2010

Event to Focus on Delivering Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030

MEED, a primary source of business intelligence for the Middle East, today announced it has lined up over 50 influential speakers and over 350 key policy-makers and influencers for the Abu Dhabi Conference 2010.
Organised in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development, the conference titled ‘Delivering the Vision’ will be held from 8-9 November at the Fairmont, Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi. It will comprise a two-day conference and a one-day masterclass, offering strategic insights into the latest business and investment opportunities in Abu Dhabi.

His Excellency Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development, will present the keynote address on the opening day of the event and highlight the current achievements as well as future opportunities in the emirate with specific relevance to Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030.

According to the Abu Dhabi Statistical Yearbook 2010, for the first time in the history of the emirate, oil accounted for only 49 per cent of the Abu Dhabi’s GDP in 2009. The record low ratio also confirms that the emirate’s programmes to expand the economic base and diversify the sources of income are progressing successfully.
In addition, the report also says that despite the drop in oil prices by more than 33 per cent in 2009, the non-oil sectors have achieved a relatively high growth of 6.2 per cent on average. The GDP at current prices stood at AED546.5 billion in 2009, while fixed capital formation grew to AED79.840 billion, up from AED72.673 billion in 2008. The emirate’s average per capita GDP at AED332,500 still remains one of the highest worldwide, adds the report.

His Excellency Mohammed Omar Abdullah said: “Despite global uncertainties, the emirate of Abu Dhabi has successfully maintained the pace of its development, pursuing its ambitious masterplan and steadily achieving its strategic objectives. The emirate has also invested significantly towards economic diversification and increasing the competitiveness of its diverse sectors.

“Some of these achievements will be showcased at Abu Dhabi Conference 2010 in addition to our growing project pipeline that is designed to make the emirate an attractive global destination for international investors.”

The conference will host renowned panelists including His Excellency Jamal Al-Dhaheri, CEO, Abu Dhabi Basic Industries Corporation (ADBIC); His Excellency Mohamed Al-Azdi, CEO, Abu Dhabi National Chemicals Company (ChemaWEyaat); Her Excellency Fatima Al-Jaber, Chief Operating Officer, Al Jaber Group; His Excellency Mohamed Thani Murshed Ghannam Al-Rumaithi, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI); His Excellency Abdulla Saif Al-Nuaimi, Director of Privatisation, Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA); His Excellency Zaid Al-Siksek, CEO, Health Authority – Abu Dhabi; His Excellency Rashed Mubarak Al-Hajeri, Chairman, Abu Dhabi Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA), and His Excellency Mohamed Hasan Al-Qemzi, CEO, Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones (ZonesCorp).

Edmund O’Sullivan, Chairman, MEED Events, said: “The Abu Dhabi Conference 2010 is an essential event for anyone involved with delivering the vision and masterplan for the dynamic emirate. It will give delegates access to nearly 400 influential decision-makers in the Abu Dhabi Government and an insight into the latest projects. Participants will also gain access to top government officials and can look forward to interacting with them and holding discussions on areas for possible collaboration.”

The Department of the Municipal Affairs (DMA) is the strategic partner of this year’s edition. The conference is organised in association with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and supported by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) as the associate sponsor. HSBC and Union Bank are the gold sponsors of the event, while Bin Hamoodah Automotive is the official carrier. Business Enterprises Services (BES) and Sika are the silver sponsors.
