HE Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan Opens Abu Dhabi University Career Fair 2010

Fair hosts more than 30 public & private companies with a hundred career and training opportunities

The Abu Dhabi University’s annual Career Fair opened today, in the presence of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for students of the university to meet and greet with leading government and private institutions from across the UAE, who are seeking out new talent in the form of skilled and intellectual youth.

More than 30 companies from both public and private sectors in Abu Dhabi and the UAE participated in the exhibition, offering over 100 career and training opportunities to ADU students and graduates. Participants came from various economic sectors including aviation, hospitality, business management, information technology and engineering. The 2nd Career Fair is considered as a strategic event to help ADU students achieve their career goals and prepare them to compete in the labour market.

ADU Chancellor, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim in his opening speech positioned the university highly in terms of its contribution to the growth of the nation’s economy by producing highly efficient and qualified graduates who will join the labour force. He added that ADU’s academic programmes correspond to Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, which is to develop a knowledge-based economy.

“This event is considered as an important platform to allow ADU students and graduates to directly communicate with local companies and organisations and learn first hand different career and intern opportunities in addition to know interviews and job market requirements,” he said.

Dr. James Mackin, ADU Provost, added that ADU plays a major role in ensuring a promising future for students by opening its doors every year to a stream of employment and training opportunities, and by facilitating a connection between the future graduates and their potential employers.

“Abu Dhabi University, since its establishment, has been committed to produce competent and talented graduates who can make significant contributions to the UAE’s economic prosperity. For years, ADU strives to become one of the region’s premier universities by partnering with the best international universities in Germany, USA, Canada, UK, France and Australia as well as constantly updating its offerings to students,” Mackin added.

“According to a statistics report conducted by the Summit, ADU students enjoy up to 90% of job placement, a very high rate of employment particularly in sectors such as management, marketing, finance, IT and engineering. But we don’t want to be complacent. Instead we would like to boost this percentage and also allow Abu Dhabi University graduates to look forward to an exciting career path with the leading companies in all sectors in the country,” he furthered.

To that effect, Abu Dhabi University and Summit jointly provided career services and counselling, advising students on how to present themselves to prospective employers at the Career Fair and in the context of an initial interview. This includes: developing effective communication skills, identifying job descriptions that match student capabilities, and fulfilling other technical details.

Representing an array of prominent industries across the emirates, including banking & finance, tourism, oil & gas, IT & computing, construction, and engineering, members from nearly 35 different organisations took to the ADU’s Career Fair to seek out the right candidates to fill new positions in their companies. Among participating companies and institutions, and also main sponsors of the Career Fair 2010, were Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Etihad Airways, Kanoo Group, and First Gulf Bank.

Day two of the Career Fair welcomes only Female students to come in and give personal interviews and pursue their job search in a comfortable environment.
