The Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Operations (ADCO) and the Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO) have won two ADIPEC 2010 Excellence in Energy awards.

The awards were presented in a ceremony on the second day of this global event at Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel, Abu Dhabi and was attended by H.E. Abdulla Nasser Al Suwaidi, ADNOC Deputy CEO, and senior oil and gas executives from both the UAE and the region.

The Award, which was organized for the first time in the event’s history, includes six categories: The Best Future Leadership Program and Diversity in the Workplace, HSE Project or Initiative, CSR Initiative, Best Innovation or Technology, Best Project and Energy Company & Executive of the Year.

Saudi ARAMCO took two awards for Best Innovation or Technology and the Energy Company and Energy Executive of the Year, the last being granted to H.E. Khalid Al Falih, president and Chief Executive Officer of the Saudi giant.
ADCO won the Project of the Year Award while ADMA-OPCO received the CSR Initiative of the Year Award. Ali Rashid Al Jarwan, ADMA-OPCO CEO received an award in recognition of his distinguished efforts while chairing ADIPEC 2008 Conference.

The two other awards were given to QP Shell for its HSE Project or Initiative of the Year and to Tawazun Holding for its future Leadership Program of the Year.

The prestigious ceremony crowned ADIPEC’s second successful day which witnessed a visit by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, who was received in ADNOC stand by H.E. Abdullah Nasser Al Suweidi, Deputy CEO, ADNOC, and other senior officials in the Group.

“These two awards are attributed and dedicated to the employees of Saudi ARAMCO. They will serve as a further incentive to continue our journey of excellence in providing reliable and safe energy to the world,” said H.E. Abdul Latif Al Othman, ARAMCO’s Senior Vice-President of Finance in his address after receiving the two awards on behalf of ARAMCO’s President and CEO, H.E. Khlaid Al Falih.

“I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, for sponsoring this great event that has really achieved global standing. He concluded by saying, “I would also like to thank the event’s organizers and the people of the brotherly UAE in general,”

ADMA-OPCO was initially nominated for five of the award’s six categories. “2009 and 2010 have been blissful years for ADMA. Our excellent performance is attributed to our integrated teamwork, our passion to lead at all levels and to excel in whatever we do.” said Mr. Ali Rashid Al Jarwan, ADMA-OPCO’s CEO.

Thanks to Allah, we find in ourselves the energy and the determination as individuals and as teams, to accept nothing less than excellence and distinction, and we hope that we will continue on the same path,” Mr. Al Jarwan said.

“Developing future leadership is the cornerstone for our company, and this award is just a symbol of recognition from our leadership of our efforts to develop human capital. However, when we started this program, we did not aim for any awards other than reaching our objectives. But certainly such recognition will further motivate us for more improvements,” commented Mr. Hamad Khalifa Al Neyadi, Tawazun’s Chief Strategy Officer on the Company’s winning of the Future Leadership Program award.

The HSE Project or Initiative of the Year went to Qatar Petroleum Shell joint venture. “We feel very happy about this recognition of our efforts with a huge workforce of 52 thousand people, trying to preserve their safety and physical and mental health and creating a working environment where people can do their best,” said Mr. Rob Munster, Shell’s Vice President for Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainable Development.

Crowning a successful start of the international event so far, the evening was described by an oil executive as an “oil and gas Oscar,” which will certainly trigger a positive competition amongst regional companies that seek to embrace the global best practices.

ADIPEC has chosen a Judging Panel of high profile dignitaries with hands-on experience in the industry to assess entries. These are H.E. Yousef Al Nuwais, Chairman of the Arab Development Company, Mr. Abdel Munim Al Kindy, CEO of ADCO, Ali Obaid Al Yabhouni, GM of ADNATCO-NGSCO, Justin Hearn, Senior Process Manager, Gas Treatment Process Technology, BASF, Marten Mauritzen, Lead Country Manager, ExxonMobil and Bassam Hage, Managing Partner, Ernst & Young - Abu Dhabi.

“The results we have seen tonight clearly show that the Judging Panel has done an excellent job. It was unbiased and credible. It shows that we have take into consideration the whole region and that we are trying to position this event in Abu Dhabi as a meeting place for the whole regional industry to come together every two years and we couldn’t be happier at the success of this evening,” observed Mr. Hifazat Ahmed, Event Director of DMG, ADIPEC organizer.
