First App From AppsArabia Now Available On App Store

Kalimat set to become a hit in 2011

AppsArabia, the Middle East’s first and only investment fund created with the sole purpose of supporting app development in the region, today announces that its first app, the addictive word game Kalimat, is now available for download from the App Store onto iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

Available in both Arabic and English, Kalimat offers an educational yet fun and interactive user experience, and is unlike any other word game currently available on the App Store.

Kalimat was created by entrepreneur Farès Fayad and built by UAE based developers Piranha Byte, with AppsArabia providing the investment and publishing the app. In addition to its primary role as an investor in apps, AppsArabia provides extensive mentoring, matching entrepreneurs with developers, consultancy on commercial viability, quality control, and ongoing marketing support.

As a part of twofour54, the Abu Dhabi Government initiative that is facilitating the development of a world class Arabic content creation community, AppsArabia is also encouraging the development of talent in the region. The project allowed for the talented individuals who are a part of the twofour54 ibtikar: creative lab community to develop a series of video trailers to support the launch of Kalimat.

The series - filmed on location in the UAE and scripted by and starring members of the community - focuses on the adventures of Kali and Mat and how their relationship is affected by the addictive power of Kalimat. The first episode of the series, “Go Out to Dinner Alone?” is available for viewing online at the Kalimat website (www.kalim.at).

Commenting on the launch of Kalimat, David Ashford, General Manager of AppsArabia, said: “We are delighted that Kalimat is now available for download on the App Store. Farès identified a gap in the app market for a really strong word game, that is different to others in the market in terms of game play and user experience, and of course available in both Arabic and English. We are delighted to have been able to support Farès in creating such a great game and we’re confident that people will appreciate the quality of Kalimat and love playing it!

“As part of twofour54 we are in a much better position to engage with talented individuals for the development of our supporting promotion tools – namely the amusing web series featuring Kali & Mat. This is the first of many apps that we are currently working on and we look forward to keeping the market up to date with our progress throughout the coming year.”
