"Breakfast Discussion" Starts Off Be-Cause Campaign "Empowering Disabled Women"

Sharjah Ladies Club launched its 2nd Be-cause Campaign “Empowering Disabled Women” associated with Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services and Women with Disability Empowerment Association, sponsored by Julphar. The event held a special gathering titled “Breakfast discussion” in SLC’s restaurant Lafeef, with the presence of female journalists, members from the Women with Disability Empowerment along with Aisha Al Rowaimah, Radio Presenter.

Al Rowaimah addressed various principles that bring hope and power in the hearts of disabled women, in the strong role of giving others and the strong faith in religion. In addition to forming exercises which helped attendees understand the importance of cooperation and self acceptance.

The discussion was attended by friends and parents of the disabled women, and each expressed and spoke about their experiences in facing the various types of disabilities in their daily lives. Whether it is congenital or newly established, and also confirmed the important role of parents in facing obstacles which is a strong bond in the most important moments.

Moreover, the ladies also participated and expressed their personal experiences in facing the daily obstacles in life. Whereas, one of the visual disabled women spoke about her parent’s opposition regarding her studying abroad, but her control changed everyone’s perspective, which led to her parents treating her naturally. Therefore, her determination encouraged her in continuing all levels of education and eventually being a media graduate.

“Today we highlighted a special category of women with disabilities and introducing their needs to the society. This discussion is considered one of the many activities within this campaign, cooperating with the Women with Disability Empowerment Association, launched by Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, at the club, in 11th October, 2011. As we have focused today in hearing their experiences, as well as the experiences of parents and friends of disabled people. We have witnessed that women with disabilities are mothers, daughters, employees, teachers, and students fighting all disabilities and not considering it as barriers, on the contrary, passing all obstacles and achievements. We hope for the society to start seeing disabled people as any normal person, achieving a lot and perusing their dreams and hopes despite their disability”, said Badria Al Ali, Head of Corporate Communication.

This campaign comes within the club’s various activities and events, which the club is keen in adopting and embracing new issues of concern to women and contributes to enhance their appearance in the community demanding their legitimate rights.

Moreover, the club has recently developed many of its facilities to be friendly for disabled women, such as building ramps in the club’s main entrance, and removable slope sidewalks for transportation in various entrances of the club. In addition to building parking places and toilets to meet their requirements as well as giving out special discounts in different membership registration.

It is worthy to mention that Be-Cause Campaign was first launched in 2010 focused on collecting charitable donations where its proceeds go to the children of unknown parentage and identity within the Social Care Centre of children, and Children’s Right Protection Organization in Sharjah. And this year Be-Cause Campaign “Empowering Disabled Women” launched under HH Sheikha Jawaher Al Qassimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Sharjah Ladies Club, starting today’s discussion panel which gathered members of the Women with Disability Empowerment Association with the journalists. Moreover, the club will be holding various activities and events as part of the campaign which will continue throughout a year.
