Sharjah Participates In Cairo International Book Fair |

The Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah is participating in the 43rd Cairo International Book Fair which opened today at the Fair Ground in the Cairo district of Nasr City and runs until 10th February 2012. Sharjah is represented in the cultural event by Abdullah Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, and Ahmad Bin Rakhad Al Amri, Director of Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF). Al Amri welcomed Tunisian and Egyptian culture ministers, confirming SIBF eagerness to continue the successful movement and participation of cultural events around the world. He gifted them a copy of the poem "Munajat Galb" and "Egypt in the nineteenth century". He revealed that Egypt will be the honorary guest in the next edition of SIBF, appreciating the leading role of Egypt in cultural and intellectual field in Arab World. Al Owais also welcomed William Kopaky - Regional Manager of the Library of Congress, who praised the publications and events at SIBF stand. Al Owais and Al Amri introduced a presentation of the SIBF achievements from 30 years ago. The SIBF participation comes with its efforts to participate in various cultural events in both the Arab and rest of the world. An evening of poetry will be held as part of a sideline event of SIBF. The Emirati poets, Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim and Ali Al Shaali will recite poems from the book "Ebdat min El Emarat", written by Mohammed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council. The book showcases the UAE’s literature in its different aspects including poetry, novel and stories. Traditionally, the Sharjah International Book Fair participates in such events with the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to meet the needs of those interested in intellectual and cultural heritage around the world. With this in mind, organizers of the SIBF are always keen to achieve the visions and aspirations of HH, which contributes to Sharjah’s credibility as an important hub of science and knowledge. This year’s theme is going to be "One year After the January 25th Revolution," includes cultural and artistic activities to be presented to the people through various symposiums, including the role of comic in revolution, the impact of Internet in revolution, TV Channels and Revolution, Egyptian revolutions taboo, Global Capitalism and Arab revolutions, Arab Spring parliaments, 25th Revolution and new society decade, the crisis of drafting institution, Al Azhar documents and national reconciliation, Civil State: one term and mixed concepts, parties and alliances after revolution and Egyptian-African relations after revolution.
