British School Wins AED 80,000 Scholarship Award
Over 100 students from nine high schools participated today in a battle of the wits at the ‘Dare to Compete’ challenge hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology at its campus in Dubai Silicon Oasis, the region’s premier integrated innovations hub for high-tech industries.
Dr. Alex Friess, Mechanical Engineering professor at RIT-Dubai, took the students through the events as the Quiz Master and emphasized on the importance of learning science with an understanding of its application in everyday life. Participants were engaged in intellectually stimulating activities that tested their wit and common sense. The British School, Al Khubairat, Abu Dhabi won the first place and received an AED 80,000 scholarship award offered by RIT-Dubai.
The session also hosted the Engineering Challenge, which tested the students’ ability to apply common principles of Physics for completing the assigned tasks.
As part of the day’s activities, the students toured the RIT Dubai campus and were briefed on the different majors offered by the University. The event concluded with a sumptuous barbeque that brought the students and faculty of RIT Dubai together.
Commenting on this event, Dr. Mustafa AG Abushaghur - President of RIT Dubai said: “We are pleased to host the students form high schools who will be the future engineers, scientists, and leaders. We wanted to challenge them as well as educate them. They were up to the challenge and we had good and fun time.”
