ENPARK Leads Earth Hour Initiative For TECOM Investments

Gathering at Dubai Media City Lake Shows Commitment to Safeguard the Planet

In an attempt to raise awareness on energy consumption, in addition to switching off all non-essential lights across all free zones, the Energy and Environment Park (ENPARK) at TECOM Investments organized a gathering at Dubai Media City amphitheatre where floating candles were lit up and placed in the lake as the lights went off during Earth Hour 2010.

Across 11 of TECOM’s business parks, a total of 150 kwh and 110 KG of CO2 were saved during the 1 hour the lights were switched off.

Abdullatif AlMulla, Group CEO of TECOM Investments, said: “Our objective is to actively encourage the thousands of companies based in our business parks to voluntarily take on the task of protecting our environment. We firmly believe it is important for companies to fulfill their responsibilities and act as good social citizens to minimize the negative impact on planet earth.”

In addition to switching off the lights across TECOM, ENPARK also held a competition to make lanterns from recyclable materials as an initiative to raise awareness on the important of electricity consumption. Winners of the competition received sustainable gifts provided by Ekotribe and PTL Solar, both ENPARK Business Partners.

Ali Bin Towaih, Executive Director, ENPARK, said: “These green initiatives seek to foster a strong sense of awareness among the general public on the importance of sustainability. It is incumbent on each one of us to protect our environment and leave a healthy planet for the future generation. ENPARK consistently organizes programmes that promote the well-being of the environment, and our participation in Earth Hour this year reflects this strategic direction.”

TECOM Investments and its entities have recently adopted a proactive approach through various initiatives to raise awareness on green issues and reduce carbon footprint in the region. ENPARK’s initiative follows its early success in installing solar street parking at Dubai Outsource Zone and Dubai Media City, both members of TECOM Investments.
