SportAccord Convention Networking Linked To Commercial Success

The business event market has long been an important means of bringing professionals together to share interests, explore issues and generate new ideas, which very often leads to further collaboration, innovation and profitable business relationships.

Judging by feedback received from ongoing attendees, this month’s SportAccord Convention 2010 Dubai at the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah is one such example of how a business networking event has helped participating businesses to succeed. Being held from 25-30 April, the 8th Annual SportAccord Convention brings the sports industry elite together with high-ranking officials to discuss the big issues facing the sports world today along with regional and global perspectives on developments in sports, and it provides an exclusive environment in which to network in-between sessions and at special events, fostering knowledge-exchange, collaboration and new business development.

The CEO of Sport Event Denmark, Lars Lundov, commented: “For us, the SportAccord Convention has been a vital, annual platform for our intensified networking with international partners, mainly our two primary target groups: international sports federations and the international sports media.”

Sport Event Denmark’s mission is to make Denmark one of the most prominent hosts of sports events in the world. The company has participated in the SportAccord Convention since its inception in 2003 and was recently both a Silver and Gold Sponsor, and CEO Lundov attributes their success in hosting the upcoming 2011 UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) Road World Championships to an initial dialogue between UCI representatives and Sport Event Denmark that took place at SportAccord Convention in Berlin in 2005.

“Our presence at the convention has proved to be a great success,” Lundov continued.
“From an international survey we conducted, we know that the majority of our international target groups have come to know us very well through our annual participation at the SportAccord Convention. We also know that during the past few years, several major world sports championships have been placed in Denmark by the rights owners on account of an initial contact at the SportAccord Convention.”

IEC in Sports, an international media company active in the distribution of television rights to sport events to a wide variety of media platforms, has also attended every SportAccord Convention since 2003 and has steadily added to its portfolio of television properties as a result, most recently concluding a major deal to represent the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federation).

Director of Television Properties for IEC in Sports, Nick Haigh, commented: “Having participated in SportAccord Convention since the first conference in Madrid and ever since, IEC in Sports finds SportAccord to be an invaluable communication platform and networking opportunity. It gives IEC the opportunity to target new and existing customers in a select and high-level business environment. We see a number of familiar faces each year with whom it is important to maintain regular dialogue and face-time, and we are also given the chance to showcase our products and services to potential new business partners.”

Saeed Hareb, Second Vice President of the Dubai Organizing Committee and Executive Director of the Convention, commented: “While there is no doubt that business events provide an opportunity for local, regional and international delegates to network and interact with industry colleagues, experts and government officials from other destinations and countries that can lead to building vital business networks for trade, they are also an ideal platform for showcasing a host venue’s capabilities and resources to a large and influential captive audience, leading to further trade opportunities.”

Indeed, this year’s SportAccord Convention in Dubai fulfils it’s promise as an elite networking event by bringing together some of the biggest names in the world of business and sports: the conference will unite representatives of global sports sponsors adidas, Audi, Swiss Timing, and Emirates Airlines and local sponsors from ‘Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award’, Dubai Media Inc., Nakheel, Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), and Dubai Sports City with high-profile speakers like former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, influential executive panellists from top sports federations such as FIFA President Joseph Blatter, UEFA President Michel Platini and the International Olympic Committee’s Chief of Staff Christophe de Kepper, plus 1500 sports professionals/delegates from around the world, for panel discussions, high-profile media interviews and social networking events.
