World Green Economy Summit to kick off today |

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the 4th World Green Economy Summit (WGES) will kick off today in Sheikh Saeed Hall (3), Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center. Organized under the theme “Driving Innovation, Leading Change", the summit will conclude on Wednesday (25thOctober 2017). WGES 2017 is the region's premier event and one of the most important events in the global green economy. It is expected to attract more than 3,000 participants, experts, decision-makers and investors. The 2017 Summit will focus on enhancing the concept of innovation, which represents the driving force toward the shift into green economy. WGES’s official inauguration will follow the awarding ceremony of the 3rd Emirates Energy Award (EEA), which will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, under new theme 'Innovative Solutions for Clean Energy’. The Emirates Energy Award is the most prestigious of its kind in the region and was tailored to honor creative experts who supported sustainable development and green energy technologies through innovative projects. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGES, said: “Dubai's hosting of the fourth edition of the World Green Economy Summit underscores the emirate's leading status as the global capital of green economy. Thanks to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai has successfully established a clear working methodology to lead the transformation into green economy. This methodology has been implementing the visions and strategies adopted by the wise leadership to achieve sustainable development in both medium and long term. These strategies include the “UAE Centennial Plan 2071”, and “Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050” as well as “UAE Vision 2021”.” The summit coincides with the 19th edition of WETEX 2017 and the 2nd Dubai Solar Show, as part of the Green Week in Dubai. “The World Green Economy Organisation (WGEO) was launched during the previous session of the Summit one year ago and today, WGEO has established itself as an effective key player specialised in supporting the green economy worldwide thanks to the wise leadership’s support and global collaboration,” added Al Tayer. The summit will feature five plenary sessions and eight parallel sessions, which will discuss various topics such as green economy and government strategies, future of smart cities, innovation and renewable energy, innovative financing solutions, corporate and sustainability, the role of the financial sector in the transition to green economy, Public-private partnership, and digital transformation. The first day will also feature a youth dialogue on the reality of adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles for young people. This session will discuss how governments can build on the growing youth interests in environmental issues. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, and Chairman of WGES, will be the key speaker at this youth dialogue The World Green Economy Summit is taking place at a time when the international arena is witnessing a growing movement to tackle the climate change and protect the environment. The summit’s goals come in line with that of specialisd major international events such as the Paris Convention on Climate Change and the forthcoming COP 23rd in Bonn, Germany. |
