MD & CEO Of DEWA Receives Delegation From European Energy Companies

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has received a delegation from European energy companies including Daniel Develay, Chief Executive Officer of Belgium’s Tractebel Engineering, Michael Wuennemann, Executive Director of Energy at Lahmeyer International, Alain Vannerum, Managing Director of Middle East, and Ariadne Szekut, Product Manager – Energy System Consulting, at Tractebel Engineering. Al Tayer discussed Dubai’s efforts to develop renewable and alternative energy, rationalise the use of natural resources, and find alternative solutions to conventional energy, to achieve the sustainable development of Dubai.

Al Tayer welcomed the delegation, emphasising DEWA’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with international companies to exchange the best and latest international experiences and practices in the energy sector.

Al Tayer reviewed DEWA’s key programmes, projects and initiatives to achieve the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote sustainability and a green economy in Dubai, and establish an infrastructure for electricity and water services in Dubai, as per the best international standards.

Al Tayer discussed the latest development in the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar power project in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. It has a total investment of AED 50 billion, and will produce 1,000 MW by 2020 and 5,000 MW by 2030. Upon completion, the solar park will reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, supporting Dubai’s objectives for sustainable development and a green economy.

Al Tayer reviewed DEWA’s smart initiatives to support the Smart Dubai initiative to make Dubai the smartest and happiest city in the world. These include Shams Dubai, which allows customers to install photovoltaic panels on their rooftops to generate electricity from solar power, and the Green Charger initiative: to establish the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations to encourage the use of electric vehicles across Dubai, and the Smart Applications through Smart Meters and Grids initiative.

The delegation presented the latest solutions and technologies in traditional and renewable energy, and smart and sustainable solutions that contribute to the promotion of a low carbon economy. They also discussed smart grids, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and energy-storage solutions. Develay presented Al Tayer with Tractebel’s 2016 Activity Report, which highlights the company’s activities and achievements in 2016. The delegation thanked Al Tayer for his warm welcome and his detailed overview of DEWA’s projects and exchanging views and best global experiences in the renewable and clean energy sector.
