HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), reviewed the progress of DEWA’s Innovation Centre, one of the futuristic projects at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site project of its kind in the world, based on the IPP model. It will generate 1,000MW by 2020, and 5,000MW by 2030, with a total investment of AED 50 billion.

Al Tayer was accompanied by Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation; Abdullah Obaidullah, Executive Vice President of Water & Civil; Jamal Shaheen Al Hammadi, Vice President of Special Projects; and Mohammed Al Shamsi, Vice President of Civil Projects Engineering & Water Maintenance.

Al Tayer was briefed about the project’s progress, by representatives from Hadeed Emirates Contracting (HEC). The progress rate of the project has reached approximately 50%. Due to the importance of the project as a sustainable landmark and added value, the contractor was directed to adhere to the highest standards of security, health and safety, and to complete the project according to the highest quality standards.

The Innovation Centre’s unique design reflects the identity of the solar park, and reinforces Dubai’s green transformation. It is a pioneering example of sustainable development, in the region, and the world. The project will include an interactive centre equipped with state-of-the-art renewable and clean energy technologies that will enable DEWA to review its own achievements in renewable energy and sustainability, as well as highlight the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and Dubai’s vision for the future.

The Centre will be a museum and exhibition of solar and renewable energy that will attract tourists, universities, schools, companies and partners. It will be open to solar manufacturers and developers, as it includes a specialised venue, and a permanent conference centre for events, conferences, business meetings, training courses, and meetings about solar and renewable energy, and other green initiatives. The building has a capacity of 4,000 square metres, is approximately 90 metres tall, and consists of four floors.

DEWA’s Innovation Centre aims to support national capabilities in the field of energy, enhance the competitive edge of the Emirate's business, develop renewable energy technologies, support the development of the sector in the region, and promote awareness of climate change and sustainable energy, in addition to creating special interactive presentations, educational trips for guests, and educating individuals about solar energy.
