The “Corporate Social Responsibility” team held its first meeting during the month of Ramadan at the Executive Council of Dubai, located in the Emirate Towers. The meeting was attended by CEO’s and assistant directors from various government entities, and activists in the field of social work in Dubai.
The team was formed upon the directive of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, supporting the National Strategy of the "Year of Giving"; the main goals of the team is to coordinate and advance different types of social work in Dubai, in partnership with the private sector.
Head of the Corporate Social Responsibility team Aisha Abdullah Miran, Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Management and Governance Sector, welcomed the team members, noting the importance of their role in coordinating and promoting the common efforts of the government and private sector in Dubai. "The team aims to set Dubai’s priorities for charitable and voluntary work and get the private sector involved in social developmental projects to serve the community. Members of the team will focus on the next phase of projects that target the majority of Dubai citizens and residents," she said.
Miran also emphasised the need to promote the private sectors role in advancing social work in Dubai, citing a number of vital community-based projects that the team will include in their agenda during the next phases. "The role played by the team is not only to coordinate efforts in regards to key vital projects, but also includes proposing relevant laws and regulations as well as launching awareness campaigns addressing the importance of participating in charitable and voluntary work, in coordination with the concerned entities. Over the past period, we have identified many existing initiatives and projects that require us to join forces and efforts to ensure their sustainability and increased efficiency.” she added.
The team is headed by Aisha Abdullah Miran, Assistant Secretary-General for Strategic Management and Governance Sector of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council. Members of the team include Mr Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Vice President of Commercial Services at Dubai Chamber, Mr Omar Bushahab, CEO of BRL sector at the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, Mr Saeed Al Tayer, CEO of Social Planning and Development Sector at the Community Development Authority, Mr Naser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council, Mr Mohammed Mubarak Al Mutaiwei, Assistant Director General for the Communication and Community Sector in Dubai Municipality, Mr Ahmed Al Hammadi, CEO of the Publishing Sector at Dubai Media Incorporated, Mr Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Executive Director - Charitable Work Sector at the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities in Dubai, Mr Jassim Al Awadhi, CEO of the Institutional Support Services Sector at the Dubai Health Authority, Mr Mohammad Ahmad Borahima Assistant CEO of Engineering Sector at Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment, Ms Mouza Al Suwaidi, Chief of Engagement at Knowledge and Human Development Authority, as well as Mr Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri, Mr Amin Al Khaja, Ms Fatima Al Balooshi, who are activists in the field of social work.
The members reviewed the reasons why the team was formed, their objectives and tasks, relevant community-based initiatives in Dubai and how the team's role is linked to the pillars of the National Strategy for the “Year of Giving”, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai in March 2017. The meeting also addressed the key features of the strategy, its alignment with Dubai plans and projects, in addition to reviewing the initiatives undertaken by the government in the Year of Giving.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed the setting up of the Corporate Social Responsibility team, under the umbrella of the Social Development Committee of the Executive Council of Dubai, during the Executive Council meeting held in April 2017 at the Union House with the goal of coordinating the development of social work in the emirate, taking into account all social needs of all segments of the society. The team also aims to help create a more cohesive and united society that embraces common human values based on the Dubai Plan 2021. Furthermore, it will set Dubai’s priorities for charitable and voluntary work, support the development of programmes and social responsibility initiatives, promote awareness on the importance of participating in charitable and voluntary work and create communication channels with the private sector to encourage involvement in social projects, and follow up on common efforts to drive social work in Dubai. Furthermore, the team will organise and coordinate between civil society organisations, public entities and the private sector, as well as aligning federal and local projects, programmes and plans.
The Social Development Committee is one of the sectoral committees launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to develop a general framework and participate in the formulation of the government’s supreme directives, the government agenda and the general policies of the emirate. The committee is entrusted to discuss and review policies, projects and operational frameworks at government level, submitting recommendations to the Executive Council for approval, assessing sectorial performance and contributing to its development to achieve Dubai Plan 2021 objectives.
