Dubai Customs received “Certified Innovative Organization” certificate from the Global Innovation Institute (GInI) to become the first government department to get this certificate worldwide, and a culmination of all innovation efforts in the Department.
The Global Innovation Institute is an international organization providing professional membership associations and certifications in the field of Innovation.
Dubai Customs was assessed by a team of experts from GInI against a number of criteria which included strategy, governance, personnel, tasks, technology, leadership, environment, budget and motivation.
Ahmed Mahbooh Musabih applauded the reward, and pointed out that the Department always encourages its employees to adopt new ideas and services, and to turn challenges into opportunities.
“Innovations help advance the national economy and development. The UAE is moving up on the global competitiveness indexes, and innovation is one of the catalysts. We are inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai when he invited all government departments to make innovation a daily practice and to spread this culture amongst its staffs”.
As part of its innovation strategy, Dubai Customs applies the latest and most advanced standards and encourages innovation throughout all its sections and divisions, he added.
“With this in mind we have launched the Smart Innovator Platform” that will evaluate and categorize different innovations. we allocated ten hours a month for each department to brainstorm and come up with new innovations that will serve the business inspired by the ideas of 10X initiative”.
Musabih pointed out that Dubai Customs’ innovations helped it attain renowned local, regional and global accolades including 11 international accreditations for unprecedented innovations and more than 62 international and regional rewards from 2010 to 2016, including DGEP’s reward for innovative employees.
Hussam Juma, Director, Business Innovation Department attributed this achievement to the hard work and sincere efforts of the team at the Business Innovation Department.
“We are always on the lookout for the latest and most advanced practices. All certificates available through GInI reflect the most current methods, trends, and strategies in innovation leadership. These are continually updated to the latest internationally-recognized practices across the many domains of innovation. We work towards making innovation a daily practice in the Department. For this we have recently organized a training workshop which benefited 60 executives and employees in Dubai Customs and generated 30 innovations and opportunities” Juma added.
