Dubai Customs’ training center launched a sign language training program exclusive for customs use. This comes as a response to the directives of Crown Prince of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the guidelines of “My Community…A City for Everyone” initiative. The initiative aims at turning Dubai into a disability-friendly city by the year 2020 through projects and initiatives that promote the participation and inclusion of differently abled persons (now called people of determination) in the community, eliminating all obstacles that may stand in their way, and positively integrating them in their environments. In this regard, Dr. Shaikha Al Ghafiri, (Acting) Director of Dubai Customs' Training Center pointed out that the training program is supported by Dubai Customs’ senior management and will help provide an attractive environment for people of determination. The program, in coordination with the Ministry of Community Development, will enable Dubai Customs employees better communicate with hard of hearing clients and employees. There will be sign language translators as well to help deliver customs services faster and in a more efficient way to this category of people. The program included training on 50 different signs that fit into customs work. |
