Dubai Culture Concludes ’Spring Colours Festival’ Activities

Dedicated workshop educated children about how to support people with special needs

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, has successfully concluded its ‘Spring Colours Festival’, which was held in four branches of the Dubai Public Library: Al Rashidya, Al Twar, Al Mankhool and Umm Suqeim. The initiative ran for two weeks from 25 March to 8 April 2017 and attracted a high level of participation from both adults and children.

One of the festival’s highlights was a workshop held in Al Mankhool Library, which aimed to educate children about how to support people with motor, behavioural, visual and auditory disabilities. The workshop was designed to help the next generation to communicate sensitively with people with special needs, and was presented by Fatima Jassim – SEDRA UAE Association Ambassador and strategic communication student at Zayed University. Fatima graduated from high school last year and was ranked first among home-schooled students nationwide.

This year’s ‘Spring Colours Festival’ programme also included a variety of activities such as ‘Making Video Games’, ‘Photography’, ‘Team Spirit’ and ‘Innovate Yourself’ workshops, as well as educational trips and lectures about the impact of cupping treatments on wellbeing.

Fahad Al Mamri, Director of Dubai Public Library, commented: “We are pleased with the success of this year’s edition of the ‘Spring Colours Festival’, which took place across four different Dubai Public Library branches. The programme aimed to enhance children’s skills through fun activities that are also related to their studies, and to promote healthy reading habits across this age group in line with the National Month of Reading in March 2017.”

The Dubai Public Library network includes eight libraries for adults and another seven for children. Some branches feature multi-purpose halls, classrooms and exhibition spaces, and all branches of the Dubai Public Library are connected via computer systems. This has established close links with other modern libraries, providing access to vast sources of information on a diversity of topics in both Arabic and English.
