Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has won four awards at the Gulf Sustainability and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) Awards. This new achievement demonstrates that DEWA is socially-responsible and uses world-class methods to preserve natural resources, to achieve sustainable development. DEWA received awards in the categories of Best sustainability and Education programme for its Asher initiative, Best workplace and education programme for its Takaful initiative, and Sustainability Team of the year for the Green Bill, in addition to winning an award for Overall Sustainability. Khawla Al Mehairi, Vice President of Marketing & Corporate Communications at DEWA, accepted the awards at Jumeirah Creekside hotel, Dubai. The ceremony was organised by Awards International in cooperation with International Humanitarian City and the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence.
The ceremony honoured private and government organisations that have successfully complied with international standards of sustainability and social responsibility, which are role models to other organisations included by the award. The award covers 22 categories including environmental-, social-, individual- and group-based initiatives in the workplace, and others that tackle challenges that companies face about sustainability and social responsibility. The award is judged by a panel of social responsibility experts.
“DEWA’s winning of four awards from the Gulf Sustainability and CSR Awards, show our commitment to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve the happiness of the whole community. The role of government organisations in Dubai and the UAE, is not only to provide services in their respective sectors, but also to serve society as a whole, and make every effort to support social, environmental, and economic development,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA adheres to a clear approach based on sustainability and is the first regional government organisation in its sector to issue a GRI G4 Sustainability Report. This is part of our efforts to promote corporate values, achieve the happiness of the community, while working to enhance sustainability, innovation, excellence, and wise governance. DEWA also works according to a clear strategy to achieve its Corporate Social Responsibility objectives, by focusing on the principle of giving and solidarity between customers and employees. DEWA works to organise awareness campaigns and activities to promote interaction between different groups in the community. These events play an integral role in the development of the community, and are part of our responsibility as a government organisation. This reflects our commitment to develop and serve all segments of society, and to achieve the happiness of all citizens and residents. We recorded an increase in the level of happiness of the community, which was 82% in 2013 and 89% in 2016,” added Al Tayer.
