Stressing on the importance of building knowledge of legal aspects of doing business and managing of intellectual property (IP), the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with Bird & Bird (MEA) LLP, organised Key Legal Aspects of Managing Businesses workshop at its premises on Tuesday.
Conducted by Saladin Aljurf, Counsel, and Sharon Rogers, Associate, IP and Commercial, Bird & Bird (MEA) LLP, the workshop was attended by Dubai Chamber members, lawyers and legal consultants, contract specialists, investors, entrepreneurs, brand managers and IP specialists.
Focusing on doing business in the UAE – potential challenges and solutions, the workshop provided an overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with corporate structures in the UAE as well as the means to identify the best structure and how to use the legal framework for your business.
It also dealt with understanding the importance of managing and protecting intellectual property with tips on its registration including unregistrable trademarks, audit, tangible and intangible brand value and challenges of UAE IP law.
Jehad Kazim, Director, Legal Services Department, Dubai Chamber, stressed that the workshop came in line with the Chamber’s efforts to raise awareness of the business community on the importance of managing businesses and intellectual property and maintaining of a successful trademark strategy.
She further stressed that the failure to understand the essential elements of the legal framework and trademarks can mean devaluation or loss of investment, valuable intellectual property and even business.
Kazim pointed out that the Chamber is committed to supporting the development of business in Dubai and regularly organizes trainings, seminars and workshops to ultimately serve the business community in boosting their trade and contributing to the economic growth of Dubai.
