RTA, Dubai Municipality discuss joint cooperation on future project

HE Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), has recently held a meeting with HE Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, during which they discussed means of streamlining cooperation on their future projects.

Al Tayer started the meeting with thanking the Dubai Municipality, headed by Director General HE Hussain Nasser Lootah for the huge cooperation & coordination with RTA in various issues of common concern. “RTA and the Municipality share roles & responsibilities that serve their common goals & strategies. Such joint cooperation of the two parties has streamlined the difficulties encountered and ensured the smooth processing of transactions,” stated Al Tayer.

HE Hussain Nasser Lootah commended the continued coordination & communication between Dubai Municipality and RTA, which had contributed to boosting the exchange of knowledge, experience and practices between the two entities. “Coordination and communication is the business model adopted by various entities and departments of the Dubai Government, considering it the optimal way for delivering best-in-class customer services,” noted Lootah.

During the gathering, the delegation of the Dubai Municipality reviewed the projects RTA is considering to undertake in the near future, which are related to the joint business of the two entities. The Improvement of Al Wasl and Jumeirah Streets Project, endorsed by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, during a visit to the RTA, highlight these projects. The project involves diverting the traffic movement on Jumeirah and Al Wasl Streets into a clockwise one-directional movement along the four lanes. The 2nd of December Street. The project also includes carrying out modifications to the junction linking Umm Al Sheef Street and Sheikha Latifa Street with Sheikh Zayed Road, constructing about 30 connections to ease the movement between Al Wasl & Jumeirah Streets, adding pedestrian/cycling tracks, landscaping the surrounds of the right-of-way, and providing parallel parking on both Streets.  

The Municipality’s delegation also discussed Al Shandagha Traffic Hub project. RTA has recently awarded a contract for Sheikh Rashid Street and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street Interchange. The project is situated at the crossing of Sheikh Rashid Street leading to Al Shandagha to the north, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street leading to the junction of Al Kuwait Street and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street. 
RTA has also reviewed the strategic sewage, rainwater and ground water drainage tunnel near Al Maktoum International Airport and urban communities in the surrounds spanning an area of 400 square km.

The meeting discussed expediting the issuance of NOCs for projects undertaken by Dubai Municipality, and accelerating the completion of the sewage network at Al Khawaneej 2 such that RTA can move ahead with road projects in the area. The two parties also discussed potential cooperation towards fulfilling the requirements of this vital project at excellent standards within the prescribed timeline.

From RTA, attendees were Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic & Roads Agency, Mohammed Obaid Al Mulla, Member of the Board of Executive Directors; Yousef Al Rida, CEO of Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector and Nasser Bu Shehab, Acting CEO of Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector. From Dubai Municipality, attendees were Abdullah Rafee, Assistant Director General for Engineering & Planning Sector; Salah Al Amiri, Assistant Director General for Environment & Public Health Services and Dawood Al Hajri, Executive Director of Planning; in addition to a host of directors from both parties.
